Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Dec 05, 2012 8:54 am Hello. This is my first post on this site. I have quite enjoyed reading the information from subscribers. I have tried to find an authoritative answer to a simple question. How many bags of, say, 20kg Goliath portland cement per cubic metre of concrete made at a rate of both 6;1 and 9;1. It amazed me when I asked 2 professional concreters this question when they answered "I don't know - all I do is call for a truck load". Well I only have a small size pad to make but I need to order my sand and cement bags. I am building a pad for a barbecue area 3 metres x 2 metres x 90mm with light reo. regards David Re: Bags of cement per cubic metre 2Dec 05, 2012 9:05 am Hey David 5 Bags should be ok. Are you using a cement mixer? I usually add around 6 large shovels of Sand and 10 Shovels of gravel to half a bag of cement. I reckon you will do this about 7 or 8 times to make enough for your pad. Re: Bags of cement per cubic metre 3Dec 05, 2012 9:49 am What will the pad be used for? Where have you tried to find an authorative answer? First result on google was: http://www.boral.com.au/cementdrymixes/ ... ckoner.asp Building with Jandson Homes - Eclipse 18. http://adgnetworks.blogspot.com/ Re: Bags of cement per cubic metre 4Dec 05, 2012 10:43 am Thanks for your prompt replies. Very helpful indeed. I don't have a concrete mixer and I am happy to use muscle and a wheelbarrow which I have done before. This time I didn't want excess bags of cement. The idea is to build a pad to place a gas bbq plus a counter to incorporate a Weber kettle, a kitchen sink and another counter with cupboards to store cooking utensils. This latter counter was given to me by a mate. It is made of steel and already I have taken off the top and will increase the size to allow perhaps three people to sit on stools at the counter. It will be a U shaped outdoor kitchen. My biggest problem is to "rain proof" the exposed counters. I have thought of using timber, marine ply or Cement sheet covered with tiles. Stainless is too dear for me I will plumb in water to the sink and connect to existing waste pipes. I plan on wiring in a double power point back to a caravan plug which will be used on cooking days only. Power will supplied from an outdoor power supply via an extension cord. Yes i will have a sparkie mate check it out. I tried to google my question but the Boral site did not come up. It would have saved me time and trouble. As to my effort of an authoritative answer; I tried 2 concreters as mentioned, the boss of the landscaping supply company, an irrigation engineer who doubles up as a project manager on sub divisions and my third year university chemist student.
