Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 18, 2012 7:47 am Does anybody have a comment on this? Our builder didn't install the two water controllers he quoted for with the Rinnai Infinity Enviro 26 because he now says: "It is a requirement by law to have the water temperature limited to 50 degrees for safety reasons. Hence the installation of water controllers would not be of any help in order to achieve a higher water temperature." I know that tempering valves to keep the temperature to 50 degrees are now standard in new builds but can't you have untempered water to the kitchen and laundry? And, if what he is saying is true, why do Rinnai sell water controllers? Re: Rinnai Infinity water controllers 2Oct 18, 2012 8:50 am Someone on the forum will know the exact answer but this is what I found on the rinnai website. From the Rinnai website: "To experience all the benefits of Continuous Flow hot water systems, Rinnai strongly recommend installing Water Controllers with all models." Also: "Rinnai INFINITY installations with 2 or more Water Controllers receive an extended parts & labour warranty." The website says the Enviro model is pre set to 60degrees. My understanding is that water must be set to a maximum temp of 50 degrees to bathrooms but you are able to have 60 degrees to kitchens and laundry. I am not a plumber but the tempering valves are fitted in a way to allow the hotter water to the Kitchen/Laundry. This is how ours is set up. Even if it had to be set at a max of 50 degrees, I would still be wanting the water controllers, especially if it was in your CONTRACT!!! It is one of the benefits of having the system, it allows you to set the temp of your water before turning on the tap which prevents water being wasted while trying to get your temperature correct. Good luck - I will be interested to see how you go. Re: Rinnai Infinity water controllers 3Oct 18, 2012 9:13 am They are worth having. With or without the controller you will not be able to get it hotter than 50 degrees. Setting the temp for showers makes it more effecient and recudes heat loss in pipes. Also good for setting kids baths etc. Rinnai Infinity water controllers 4Oct 18, 2012 9:25 am Ours will go to 65 degrees (says on the unit) and the builder didn't want it beyond 50 either but without stinking hot water you just can't get a floor clean! So I had words with he builder to no avail (they also said the 50 degree rule applied) but then I got onto Rinnai themselves (because we already had the controllers installed) They told me how to unlock the controllers and ever since I have has 65 degree water for my kitchen controller only. Meaning I can clean! Yay! It also flows to the laundry for the washing machine (just as important!) So basically, in light of you not having the controllers, I would hold them to the contract - after all, you could hire a plumber to install the unit from scratch and he would do it - and the controller in the bathrooms regulates the temperature anyway. In the event that our controller is still set to 65 and someone turns the water on in the bathroom, it only comes out at 50 (this was regulated by law) but for your kithhen area it should be controllable. Please note that if they have not installed a model that can hear to 65 degrees (ours has a 65 in the model name) and if its not listed in the contract then you may have a real problem even with the controllers. We had this in our last house and couldn't override to 65 because the heater didn't have capacity to produce water that hot. Oh - we built this house 2 years ago - not much should have changed since then, it all sounds the same as the line I was fed. Good luck. Check your contract and talk to Rinnai - then you'll know if you can put your angry hat on, or your really angry hat on! Rinnai Infinity water controllers 5Oct 18, 2012 9:28 am Oh, we have three controllers but in the last house only had 2. This house, we have one in the kitchen and one in each bathroom. Last house they were just in the bathrooms which was why we were not allowed to heat to 65. So this time we specified which unit and the kitchen controller and we now have what we want. Good luck! Re: Rinnai Infinity water controllers 6Oct 18, 2012 10:03 am My angry hat I really like that! I am with a small builder and he suggested the enviro with two controllers as a variation, which we agreed to. When I realised the controllers were missing and questioned him about it, he said that we couldn't have them because of our "circulation" system and that we hadn't paid for them. I looked through our invoices and he had, in fact, taken out the cost of the two controllers when it came to charging variations, but left in the extra electrical and plumbing costs! I am chasing him for a refund and he has now come up with this nonsense. Everyone on this forum is correct. I've just spoken to Rinnai myself and they have said that, in the state of Victoria, it is mandatory to have water no hotter than 50 degrees to sanitary areas ie bathrooms, but laundry and kitchen can have hotter. What needed to happen, however, was that some hard-wiring needed to have been done and two hot water feeds installed so that the tempering valve was only on the bathroom water not on all of the water in the house. This was never done but the builder still pocketed the extra money for electrical and plumbing. In fact, I don't think we even get 50 degree water. You have to put the tap on its highest setting to get a hot shower. Re: Rinnai Infinity water controllers 7Oct 18, 2012 10:27 am Hi Liliana Rinnai do supply remote controllers for some of their models so people doing renos etc can also have controllers. Check if this applies to your system and then if you really want them you can go and buy them your self. From memory they are about $120-140 each. I agree with Mrs G 50 degrees is just no hot enough for Kitchens and Laundries and even in winter I found it is not hot enough for showers if the system is away from the bathroom but then I like really hot showers . Goodluck with getting your refund for the wiring I hope they come to the party with that. 0 15696 4 10824 This certainly doesn't look good. I would be engaging with an independent inspector to have a look at this. As for the unscheduled site visits, most builders are quite… 1 28326 |
