Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Sep 03, 2006 2:15 pm Hi all! It's my first time buying a property. Not really sure how does the whole process go..Anyway, I wonder if any of you used services from Archicentre for building inspection before? Are they good? I am about to buy a property in Bundoora, VIC. Thinking I may need someone professional to have the whole house thoroughly checked before I buy it. Looking forward to your advice and suggestions. Thanks. Re: Archicentre 2Sep 05, 2006 11:19 am I went through archicentre due to a friends recommendation. Make sure you ask for someone with years of experience, and you should be ok. Great service plus they give you cheap ideas to fix minor problems.
David. Re: Archicentre 3Sep 19, 2006 6:23 pm hi fmach1, thanks for your reply. were you there when they did the inspection? i heard some people said archicentre just have lotsa advertising but they didnt do thorough job....
anyway, i just made an offer for a place. will have the inspection done once they accept my offer. *fingers crossed* Re: Archicentre 5Sep 20, 2006 11:54 am burned I used archicentre. I found them good but the builder said their report was self serving and ignored it! Archicentre said I then needed professional support. (Not a cheap report now). After the builder took me to VCAT I find archicentre reports are not recognised in this forum. Ah, that's why the builder ignored it! Your builder sounds like an absolute d!ck. Archicentre are very good at marketing their products, but I don't think (I may be wrong) that they are a licensed building inspector (as opposed to a licensed builder). I would advise getting a licensed building inspector over Archicentre. Don't just pick one out of the Yellow Pages though, ask a local strata management Company who they use Re: Archicentre 7Sep 24, 2006 9:25 am i have good and bad news. the good news is..the vendor accepted my offer!!!! (HOORAY!)
Bad news is..i just had archicentre to inspect my property. the fellow didnt even go under the house to have a look....he turned up even more well dressed than me! i expected him to get dirty, climb up to the roof....go under the house...look for all the defects that he can find.... overall he said the building is ok. but he said i may need to re-stump and costs about 7k or more for the whole house. now...what's a stump? (maybe i should start a new topic) sorry guys...what's VCAT? Re: Archicentre 9Apr 25, 2009 11:57 pm hey poh a stump is what supports the weight of your house but unless the house has an obvious tilt to it ,then unless he went under the house he would never know. bundoora is a termite area so i would get a termite inspection done dont ring the big companies as they are all about the money and not the facts try a smaller guy. ring a local builder or ring the local council to see if a building inspector can come do your report. have you signed the contract subject to building and pest reports? no use crying after the fact best to be sure you know what your getting into and restumping a house depends on a few factors but would be more around 10k stay safe happy building Re: Archicentre 10Apr 25, 2009 11:59 pm lol just read date of this post think i may be a tad late stay safe happy building |
