Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Sep 23, 2012 1:30 pm Hi there, We're building with a company that seems to try to put us off even the smallest changes by saying that 'I don't know if our tradies can do it'. We would like 28 c high windows and sliding doors to the living area. Has anyone else had trouble changing to higher doors with their building companies? Re: Builder says 28c sliding doors more difficult to install 2Sep 23, 2012 3:57 pm Project builders/companies keep their initial pricing low because they use the same items for every home. They dont like to change as this creates cost for them to source the materials. Their tradies are also paid the bare minimum, so they need to just go in and do the job as quick as possible. Putting in higher doors and windows is extra cost in produce and labour. If you paid under $1200/sqm, you probably need to accept that they are not going to put them in. However... it CAN be done. So if you havent entered into the contract yet, insist on it. Builder says 28c sliding doors more difficult to install?!? 3Sep 23, 2012 6:40 pm I would have thought the building companies would love you to have 2340mm doors and windows as they can charge you much more to upgrade. And the upgrades are where the real money is. PS I had to google '28 C' as I haven't heard of it used in Victoria. Re: Builder says 28c sliding doors more difficult to install 5Sep 23, 2012 7:20 pm Surely a simple change as increasing the door height from 2040 mm to 2340 mm can be done for an appropriate increase in price! The doors will cost more, as you say, upgrades are where the money is. Re: Builder says 28c sliding doors more difficult to install 7Sep 26, 2012 7:14 am We are with a project builder and there was no issue with making our windows and doors higher, they just charged us extra $$. Let them know you want it done and are willing to pay to do it. As someone else asked what height is your ceilings as that was our reason for higher doors, we upped our ceiling height. we have a standard size and often we have a lot of variety to choose 0 3565 We are looking for sliding doors which are 5 metres tall.
