Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Sep 22, 2012 4:20 pm Hello there, This is my first post & I wish I had discovered this web site sooner!! We have just built a solar passive house, having now lived in it for four months. We have large north facing windows & sliding doors that require curtains to block out our fast approaching Perth summer. I am hoping that you can help me answer some questions as I am a total curtain novice, having always rented. So here goes... So far, we have had 2 quotes from Spotlight & Curtain Wonderland but the fabrics are all synthetic. Is this usual? I had in mind that our curtains needed to be double lined & 'natural' so they can both block out the sun & retain the heat in winter. We also have a built in pelmet/false bulkhead that the tracking would sit under. However both the latter companies really didnt seem to understand what we were after. Also the quotes seemed expensive for acrylic curtains, albeit being custom made - about $5000. So, how much is natural fabrics such as linen cost per metro? Should there be a blend of linen & acrylic so as to prevent shrinkage? So, where should we go to get our curtains? And are their companies that offer Eco varieties? Would this be expensive? We have even thought to fly to Bali & purchase the fabric there Please help! We need guidance to sort out our curtain dilemmas!!! Many thanks. Re: Natural fibre curtains? 2Sep 26, 2012 7:12 pm Personally, I'd get them made by a seamstress - with my own fabric - or buy them OS. Restoration Hardware in the US has beautiful ones. Not cheap, but far nicer than anything you're going to get locally. If they don't ship here youll need to use a forwarding service like Shipito. I'd look at other us shops too. You can get Chinese ones too, which are cheap. Good luck! DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair All my inside walls are Fibre Cement & House has Steel frames...
