Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Sep 20, 2012 1:13 pm I'm wanting to buy around five floating shelves, like the LACK ones from Ikea or similar. I really have no idea about these things, and the Ikea website states they can hold 5-15kg. I'm wanting to use them basically as a shoe shelf in my bedroom, with say five pairs of shoes on each (or however many I can fit easily). It will just be to a normal internal wall (if you click on my building thread below there is a copy of the plans, and I'm wanting to use the wall in the main bedroom next to the sliding door to outside, next door the door from the hallway). Anyone know if these shelves will be suitable for that purpose, or can you recommend an alternative? HST do have a white 21-shoe rack but I hate the white wire look, so looking for something different! Not hiding them at all? I had floating shelving from Freedom, the builder had to pack the back of the shelves and still they slanted forward. I wasn't allowed to put too much weight on them......builders recommendations. Why don't you buy a nice cupboard for your shoes? I have heaps of stuff on it, probably more than 15kg, would be even stronger screwed to the studs. I used self drilling plaster anchors from bunnings, same as these, http://www.tradewarehouse.com.au/screwf ... xings.html Re: Floating Shelves -e.g. from Ikea - What weight do they h 4Sep 20, 2012 10:21 pm Thanks for the replies! These shelves are just for my 'pretty' shoes - not thongs, runners, flats, etc. I've spent so much money on them and they are so beautiful, I want them on display The 'ugly' shoes will definitely be hidden in a cupboard! That is perfect PaulMac, thankyou! Can I ask where you got your shelving from? I'm guessing I'll have to make a trip to Ikea, but it's a bit of a pain considering our closest one is 2.5 hours away!
