Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Sep 16, 2012 12:12 pm Our house is a year old. Yesterday, while I was cleaning a few cobwebs away from my front windows, I noticed a patch of what I thought was dust under one section of our eaves, which faces east. Looking at it properly it was mould spots. It wasn't a very big area and didn't look as though it had a leaky water spot around it and wasn't wet. I have never seen rain or water leaking through the guttering or dripping. The windows rarely get wet but sometimes there is a small spray if the rain and wind are very heavy such as our latest storms. A friend said to me it doesn't get much sun under those eaves and sometimes this can happen if it did get wet. I cleaned it with some bleach and left it to dry. I also sprayed Glen 20 on it. Has anyone else experienced this under the eaves of a house and have I treated it properly ? Re: Mould patch under eaves 2Sep 16, 2012 4:11 pm The only mould Ive seen on eaves was due to a small leak of a cracked roof tile. You will need to investigate the roof and inside the eaves Arfur Re: Mould patch under eaves 3Sep 16, 2012 8:37 pm Thanks, but we have checked the tiles, all seem fine, so not sure. I cant think of any other reason for the mould unless the water is backing up and flowing over the back or the gutter into the eaves Arfur Re: Mould patch under eaves 5Sep 17, 2012 10:44 am Remove some tiles and check for evidence of gutter flow back. Your description of small dry mould spots also indicates that it could be artillery fungus. The source is spores from nearby wood chip or pine bark mulch and it is drawn to light coloured surfaces. It is a scourge for owners of white cars. 3in1 Supadiverta. Rainwater Harvesting Best Practice using syphonic drainage. Cleaner Neater Smarter Cheaper Supa Gutter Pumper. I have never seen it drip or any water marks as such. One thing I thought of when the rain has been really heavy as it has a few times, the gutter does not fill up or overflow anywhere along there, but it does get wet on the outside rim and under the gutter which of course borders the eaves. I clean under there as when it dries you can see dried dust spots but that is everywhere and the gutters are black in colour so it shows up. I remember it being under an alfresco in a rental I had one time and no leak could be found, but they said a similar thing about moisture forming. Very annoying. It could just be humidity. There is a container of white stuff that can be put in the ceiling to absorb excess water caused by humidity. Re: Mould patch under eaves 8Sep 23, 2012 4:20 pm I have no idea why the mould has formed, but I don't imagine bleach will stop it - bleach just takes the colour away, but the spores will still be there. Apparently the best thing to use is Clove Oil which will remove the mould and stop it from coming back (as long as there isn't a recurring problem with moisture or water being the reason it started in the first place). 1st build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59376 *New*-2nd build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70324&p=1154282#p1154282 Update from me!
