Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Problems with shower size and builder 21Sep 24, 2012 9:22 pm Take a look at the last post in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=56595&p=872928 Demolition August 2009, Construction Started September 2009, Completed December 2010 Re: Problems with shower size and builder 22Sep 26, 2012 9:57 pm http://www.flickr.com/photos/87688508@N03/ Now I hoe this works. attached is the floor plan of the bathroom the room is 2550mm x 180 mm. there is a window over the bath there ia also a toilet between the shower and the bath. the shower in question sits in the corner. Re: Problems with shower size and builder 24Sep 27, 2012 7:49 pm Finally, a floorplan. Here's some ideas: 1) Given the length of the shower at approximately 1 metre, you may want to consider just having a glass panel and no door. This will give you more room when standing side on and will make entry and exit easier. 2) Assuming the room is 1800 mm wide (not 180 mm as typed!), with a door of 720 mm, jamb of 100 mm and a further 200 mm from the far side door jam to the wall, that leaves 680 mm for the shower. Then take away 10 mm for the glass and it's down to 670 mm. Question: What is the distance from the door to the far wall. The closser to the centre of the room the door is, the harder it is to get your shower in. And now for some lateral thinking: 1) Have you thought about moving the door closer to the far wall? 2) Have you considered putting a 750 mm wide glass panel on the bath and putting a shower rose in there? BTW, with the space you have, I would make the vanity longer - just long enough the miss the door + 40 mm buffer. I like you had sugguested the walk in shower. Both the builder's supervisor refused to do this. saying water would run everywhere. It is too late to do this now the tiles are layed. and the slope is in the floor not that there is much of it. And yes you are right Idealy the shower should have been in the corner .....but for a wooden window. Yesterday I had a handy man who was doing something else for me in the house and was horrified at the bathroom. He told me my timber window was close to gone and I should have just replaced it with a smaller aliminum window. my problem is Im dealing with a builder that does work for an insurance company, with little passion for my job as after he accepted my job we had floods in the area meaning he picked up 4 other major jobs. And I must ask HOW do I make the builder do any thing I want him to do? He simply says the shower can not go any bigger. And that is it. Would that solve the door jamb problem, and you can then make the shower bigger? I can not do sliding door as the home is double brick. I have thought of a folding door but that still involves the door jam. the other problem is he has layed the tiles. Re: Problems with shower size and builder 34Sep 28, 2012 8:55 pm As stated earlier, my children's bedroom ensuites have 76 cm wide showers. It's the minimum I would go for, so you should be OK.
