It plops back down into the drawer and the drawer shuts. My bench is only 600 deep too. I lost one drawer but boy..storing an ironing board is a pain in the ar$e This way it is really easy to pop out when you need it. The iron is in the cupboard above the fridge, cos I don't use those cupboards. Ooohhh so sorry, I didn't understand it was in concrete the plan. Mmmmmm, might not be able to add any slider to any loo, as you prob already have a wall there and you need a special wall to house the door into etc Sorry Re: Tight space... Floor plan and furniture, please help 22Sep 11, 2012 3:58 pm Noooo are we back to square one again? No more cabinet in bedroom and no more sink? Well, it has been fun to think of these options Sorry I wasn't clear when I explained things-- plus my lack of building knowledge made me think that your suggestions were possible after completion. I guess I should get a carpenter to build me a storage cabinet in the living room? Is that too big/too small do you think? ps. You mean your iron board folds in half? kiwi Ha ha, no you fold it in half!!! It plops back down into the drawer and the drawer shuts. My bench is only 600 deep too. Floor plan and furniture, please help 23Sep 11, 2012 4:11 pm yes..you can vaguely see there is a crease in the photo (vaguely), it folds in half, drops down as you push the cupboard front shut and you push it all in, and the cupboard front comes up and looks like a normal drawer magic!!! oh, im so sorry...our mistakes... i thought you were still at plan stage, and easy to move a door over (bed 3 etc) and swap sliders for hinged etc a slider cant be put in unless its on the plan, as it is a bit thicker cos of the frame etc. cant be put in after either. ummmm, mmmm, what to do. you could do a toilet with the basin above http://www.savewater.com.au/products/Ca ... Hand_Basin that would tick the basin in toilet box. you could get a cabinet maker to make you a cabinet to your design. ie half is for broom, vacuum, half for shelves etc..whatever you want. might not be cheap, but cheaper than building a cupboard down the hall, with gyb and plaster, painting..cornice etc i would have divan beds with drawers in the divan base..for more storage. christmas decs, platters etc if you can, have a man hole that has an attic ladder ($300 from bunnings) http://www.sellwood.co.nz/ put some flooring up there and you can use your roof for suitcases, christmas trees, boogie boards etc i would still get a trundle to house parents. get seating in the lounge then that would suit the house..not the olds for a month. that will work with your space. couch...individual seats, etc and get something (ie air mattress stored in roof) for kid in the study when they come. that way you just get furniture that has build in storage etc http://www.walmart.com/ip/Abbyson-Livin ... n/17680148 the chaise of the couch also lifts up. you can store extra bedding, etc in there for guests and yourselves. or house magazines, board games, toys, etc mmmm, where else can we add storage??? Re: Tight space... Floor plan and furniture, please help 24Sep 11, 2012 4:15 pm We have an inflatable queen size bed ( stands the same height as a normal bed when inflated) which is fantastic. Plug it into the socket, flick the switch and up she goes! Similar to an Aerobed-but cheaper version. Floor plan and furniture, please help 26Sep 12, 2012 11:15 am Some interesting ideas here, thanks!! The ironing board idea is something I should keep in mind for a future house, it's amazing! Never seen anything like it before. How do I get a man hole made (who do I contact)? Are there laws that prevent me from doing that, and will I have issues with insulation in the roof? It would be great if I could put my suitcases up there as I have no garage (just carport) and I won't be able to brick my carport immediately. Will it get really dusty up there? I'm thinking of a trundle for the parents, or maybe a bunk bed to store more things on the top bunk when they aren't here. And one day the kid might use it! I have looked at the caroma toilet, I think it's a great idea and would like to have that...I saw it at a shop too. I wish they would sell just the top bit as I have a toilet bowl already and I think it is attached quite firmly to the concrete slab or maybe the tiles? After more thinking until late late late last night, DH and I decided we will not custom-make the storage cabinet because of needing to save for our flooring installation. I'm not 100% comfortable with that decision yet as I have been dreaming of a cabinet that is exclusively for the vacuum and other cleaning items, not in the bedroom but in an accessible spot. For now, it's either going to be a flat pack wardrobe, IF it looks nice and not too odd in the living area, or nothing. Would any of these look decent, or are there better ones? http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/categories/departments/bedroom/19110/) DH wants more space in the living room to relax and "my" storage cabinet is rather big and intrusive.... There is also a corner cabinet that might work: http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/S99906715/ Would you prioritise appearance over functionality? Should I give up my storage cabinet to have a more spacious living room? I want both!! Re: Tight space... Floor plan and furniture, please help 28Sep 12, 2012 11:43 am You know what I would do Buy a nice armoir off eBay. Something second hand, within budget that can then be customised inside by you ( ie re arrange the shelves) I would go looks over cheap and cheerful but I'm happy to buy second hand....and then paint it, or whatever it needs. Others don't do second hand well. The man hole you have in your house ( do you have one?) just needs to be made a bit bigger to fit the ladder. You would talk to the builder about that. Then put 600x 3 met lengths of board up there...old ply, custom wood, chip board etc I haven't found it to be too dusty cos we have a tile roof so air gets moved around in the breeze and cleans everything !! Prob less dust than in my home. If your loo is already in then it is prob to late to swap it with the carona sort. Is there anything that isn't done yet!!?? Have you found a cabinet maker to do the kitchen? Get him to also make you the free standing broom cupboard at the same time to match the units. Matching it or totally going down the opp direction..ie French armoir...would work better than a cheap bunnings cabinet etc Re: Tight space... Floor plan and furniture, please help 29Sep 12, 2012 3:36 pm Ok, will look at armoirs. Good idea, it would set the area as a living room rather than trying to match it to the kitchen! I haven't bought the sofa set yet so I can still match it to the armour if i find a really pretty one I'm all for environmentally friendly (second-hand) purchases but I don't know how to repair and restore old furniture. If it was in a good condition and looked nice I would buy it second hand...I have some furniture that are second hand too. They have character and I quite like them. I asked about the man hole when I signed to buy the house but the builder did not know where it would be located. I still don't know... With my build, everything was a package and the builder was unable to alter things as all the items are bought together (to make many identical houses). Some things I wanted to do (before signing contract) but was told no, were changing the sink to a bigger one, bathtub shape, sliding door/vs swing open doors, electrical points etc. The sink unit and toilet were of course part of the package and so even if they have not been installed yet, they have already been decided and ordered...All changes are to be made by me, at my own cost or ripping out what is there. I am still grateful to be able to purchase this house though! Within our budget limits this was more than we could hope for. We would love to get help from this forum so that we can furnish it well, make it look bigger than it is hehehe and comfy for us, our parents, and make me feel like there is space to expand the family. I will save and do small projects around the house, add this and that...but it won't be possible to carry out alterations that are too expensive. Last night DH decided not to install the storage unit and kitchen cabinets (we were planning to get them done together) until we know exactly what we need, and where. It seems he doesn't like the idea of cabinets overhead all over the kitchen and prefers open shelves and racks/hooks. Hmm...so I agreed to wait. kiwi You know what I would do Buy a nice armoir off eBay. The benefit is you can tender the project out… 9 20153 Joe Apologies for the delay in getting back to you. If you haven't sorted this already you need to caulk this gap.
