Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Sep 07, 2012 12:19 pm I am interested in using Durra panels for my internal walls instead of plasterboard. Durra panels (from http://www.ortech.com.au/durra-panel ) are 5cm thick compressed straw panels. Compared to conventional plasterboard they are stronger, more insulative (sound & thermal) and extremely low, even negative on embodied energy scale since they are made from a waste product that is usually burnt in the field. Once installed & painted they look the same. Main drawback I can see is that they are thicker so we lose some floor space. 2 questions: 1) has anybody used them - and how did go? Has anybody considered them & decided against - for what reasons? 2) What does normal plasterboard cost per square metre - material only / installed? The Durra panel costs about $28/m2 supply only, but I don't think that includes the brackets you use to hold them top & bottom. You need to provide a way of supporting it, we use a modified timber reveal or bracket. You will be… 1 4748 |
