Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 24, 2012 9:04 pm Hi All, I moved into our newly built house & as a result, the bathroom mirriors had sticky tape marks that would not come off. I tried soap & water, windex, and any other method under the sun without any luck. Then, one day I thought I'd put this problem in google, & low & behold I got my solution! you'd never guess what it is.....oil, yes oil, just dab a bit on some cotton wool, rub the sticky marks with it & off it comes without any problem whatsoever!...ofcourse you then need to clean the mirrior with windex...I just thought I'd share this with everyone, such a simple solution to a sticky situation ( cheesy I know ) I hope this helps. Available from your supermarket Arfur Re: Taking off sticky tape marks off a new mirrior 6Jul 25, 2012 8:46 pm Thx Uncle Arfur, didn't actually think of Eucaliptus oil Nina, pls don't despair, good things come to those who wait, believe me, when your house is finished it'll be worth the wait. Re: Taking off sticky tape marks off a new mirrior 8Aug 01, 2012 5:17 am Mineral Turpentine aka "Turps" also works. Especially with the papery, easy rip stickers you get. Just let the turps soak in and then it will scratch off easier with your fingernails or a razor blade. Then you use some paper towel with a bit of turps dabbed on it to remover the adhesive gunk from the surface you are cleaning. Works on glass and mirrors a treat. Re: Taking off sticky tape marks off a new mirrior 9Aug 01, 2012 12:21 pm Turps will have a detrimental effect if used on any plastics, hence my preference for eucalyptus oil Arfur Re: Taking off sticky tape marks off a new mirrior 10Aug 06, 2012 5:33 pm Uncle Arfur Turps will have a detrimental effect if used on any plastics, hence my preference for eucalyptus oil Not on glass and mirrors though. I never advised it be used on plastics. Re: Taking off sticky tape marks off a new mirrior 11Aug 06, 2012 11:12 pm There's an amazing product called Oomph (available from most supermarkets and also Bunnings). Cleans all sticky residue, no matter what. Amazing stuff. Re: Taking off sticky tape marks off a new mirrior 13Aug 07, 2012 10:14 am Soak a strip of paper towel in undiluted white vinegar. Lay on to sticky residue and allow to soak for 5-10 minutes. Remove paper towel and scrape residue with anything handy. I use that one all the time. Works a treat. Even better - everyone has white vinegar, no extra expenditure required.
