I had the same problem as I was not sure when I was going to move in. What I ended up doing was getting house insurance only and adding contents on the day we moved in. But how do you manage to get the house insurance when most of the insurer requirement is that the house is occupied within the next 60 days? Re: Home insurance for unoccupied home 5Jul 13, 2012 5:46 pm Is the house liveable? You could move some basic furniture in and sleep there when you're home to satisfy the "occupied" requirement. We weren't able to move in immediately either, as we wanted to arrange our driveway, floor coverings etc before bringing in all our furniture and belongings. So we moved a bed, a couple of chairs and a TV in and my son and his mate stayed there. It was only a few weeks, not months, but we had peace of mind.
