Have limited experience of doing this and previously had difficulty with the taping, looks good when wet but not so good when dry. I lay the tape on a bed of base coat then trowel from the middle out with a thin coat on top, but sometimes it looks "thick" Should I just sand it down then put top coat on? Realise it's just practice that's needed but as a DIYer you sometimes dont get enough practice to increase your skill level. Any hints on applying tape expertly? Would using cornice cement be easier for a novice?
