Re: Mouldy tasting water !?!?! 3Jun 21, 2012 9:35 pm I suspect that if water stays still in plastic pipes for a long time it will taste funny. Try running all the taps for 5 minutes and see if the problem goes away. My theory was that the pipe leading into the house is leaking and the "cut" gave way to what-nots including mould. I will try both your suggestions! You are a braver person than I drinking water from pipes 'in a brand new home' because they contain remnants of crap picked up in the manufacturing/transport and storage process. Picture the guard dog peeing on the rolls of piping in the retailers yard.It will eventually flush out or be diluted enough so you cant taste it, but unless you want to be ill I certainly wouldn't drink from it Arfur Re: Mouldy tasting water !?!?! 6Jun 22, 2012 2:40 pm We haven't got the inside taps hooked up yet, but noticed with the outside ones that there is a noticeably different taste about the water from the one at the back of the house versus the front of the house - the one at the back is run throughout the house in that "Plastic" yellow piping they use these days, and the front one isn't......hope the "Flavour" diminishes.... About 1.5 years new. Water actually tasted really great up until recently ... with this weird mould flavour ... Wondering if there would be some "standards" for this ... Re: Mouldy tasting water !?!?! 8Jun 22, 2012 4:44 pm A lot of water authorities do taste testing including Sydney water However there are no real standards for taste. For example buy a bottle of the cheapest water from the supermarket and one of those expensive French waters. In a blind taste test 4 out 5 will say the cheaper water was the best. A good town water supply will normally taste better than the French stuff. A poor one worse. Having said that there are a number of things that can affect town water taste. Normally there will be some silt in the mains and a burst can stir this up affecting the taste. Also during high rain dissolved organic carbon can get through filters and cause the formation of chemicals known as disinfection byproducts which affect the taste. Some of the taste problems only become apparent due to customer complaints so for a house with town water the water supplier should generally be your first port of call. When we got some work done which added plastic pipes to our copper era house the water smelled weird for a long time. But seeing as how you've been there for a while I agree you should contact your water supplier. All sorts of things can affect the water and they might need to increase the chlorine or flush the pipes in your area or something. What is really sad is that it could very well be true. Nobody wants to taste dog pee in the water. 18 90422 From what I know about water tanks (I've been working with a client on them for a few years now) is this - The concrete can last a lifetime if they don't crack for some… 2 10620 4 10817 |
