Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 02, 2012 11:56 pm So.. Hubby and I were gardening on the weekend, planting a whole stack of our potted plants, putting in some new ones too. We're focusing on survival of the fittest since our Perth summers can be quite nasty (lost about a third of my plants I planted last year). Anyways, we have a garden bed in which we had a couple of Leptosperum bushes, some kangaroo paws and a very stumpy camelia called Lazarus. I noticed that Lazarus looked like he died, as did 1 of our Leptosperums This rang an alarm bells so I tested one of the branches to see how dead he was and it evaporated in my hands; I then went looking further and found he was filled with termites. I've left the dead Leptosperum alone as I don't want to disturb the termites any further. I've had the place inspected today and we have a live colony in my front garden and a pencil pine passed away 12 months ago as a result Termite attack. We also found we had 2 trees out the front out of 3 have evidence of old termite activity, nothing new. We had a termite inspection done 18 months ago and there was no active termites found. We don't have them in the house yet. I've received a very reasonable quote for Biflex Aqua Max, there were options for Premise and Termidor but they weren't offered. They are going to drill into the umbrella tree which has got evidence of old activity, but I suspect we might have to cull a few more trees than I'd like. Our house is on limestone blocks, so we need to cut traps into our wood floors so that a more thorough inspection can be done and treatment. What are the pro's and con's of biflex? Has anyone else had to remove trees as a result of termite damage? Any suggestions on what we can do to reduce the risk of termites in our home? Re: Termites in my Garden.. 2Jul 04, 2012 2:15 pm Find a pestie experienced in baiting stations. You can kill off a colony with baiting and that means it is highly targeted instead of indiscriminate chemical spraying around and under the house. think of "smart bomb" against "carpet bombing" Many pesties can't be bothered because it is so easy to spray your home in few hrs, pick up thousands and pay few hundred for chemicals and "Adios" you and your kids have to live with chemicals. Careful, termites won't kill you but the chemicals you use might. This advice is worth hundreds but today it's free.
