Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jun 29, 2012 6:16 pm I am apologising in advance now because of one thing: I'm not a builder or a renovator, and my topic has nothing to do with building or renovating. But I have been searching for a long time for some way to ask someone, anyone for help on this topic and this forum is probably the closest place I've come to that might have people who may be able to point me towards the correct advice - I'm not expecting you to be able to answer my question of course, but you might know where I need to go to ask about it. Basically I live in Scotland in a 3rd storey of a 4 storey block of flats and in one room in the flat the floor is hot. Not burning, but a bit hotter than human body temperature kind of hot. There is concrete between here and my downstairs neighbours and this has been going on for weeks so I doubt it's a fire. My neighbours are not approachable, so I can't ask them if there's some cause on their end. I personally don't know how to contact the downstairs landlord and the family member I'm living with isn't in touch with him any more because of a dispute, so she can't reach him any more either. This flat I'm living in is owned by the family member I'm living with, so we don't have a landlord of our own who would be able to look into this. I don't know who I should go to to ask about this, do any Scottish residents here on this forum know if there's anywhere official I can go to who might be able to get to the source of this sweltering hot floor? It's in my bedroom, and it makes sleeping difficult in the summer even when I throw all my clothes and covers off. EDIT: An additional piece of info - I don't think it's pipes because the boiler and the rooms with plumbing are nowhere near this room that I'm talking about, nor is it between any rooms with plumbing. We don't have gas central heating either, only electric storage heaters that aren't on at this time of year. Re: HELP... My floor is hot! 3Jun 30, 2012 7:32 am Thanks. I've been trying to find a Scottish or a global forum, but I can only seem to find Australian ones like the ones you've linked. Do you know why this might be, just out of curiosity? Re: HELP... My floor is hot! 4Jun 30, 2012 8:30 am Very hot in summer! Sounds like someone might be growing some sort of 'Herb' under lights. My floor is hot! 5Jun 30, 2012 6:13 pm bashworth Very hot in summer! Sounds like someone might be growing some sort of 'Herb' under lights. My thought too... but (I googled it honest!!!) the herbs require 20-25 deg in daylight, so not so hot. Maybe curing a herb... at 80-90 deg... Maybe clype to the polis... This is very tricky....I would approach the down stairs tenets or owners and let them know your concerns. Also I would mention you are thinking of getting the electricity department in to look at the lighting in their apartment due to your concerns. See what their reply is. Underfloor heating would come from your flat not anyone else's. Hydroponics lighting should not cause that much heating through a slab/concrete from a small room. What ever is it....its not normal, ask a local electrician about the problem. How long have you lived there? Nice to see someone from Scotland here. Welcome to the forum!
