Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Mar 17, 2008 12:19 pm Hi Guys,
I am looking for a stud finder, there were a few on the net but wasn't sure which one to go for. Just like to know if anyone have any experience with any of them or can recommend a good quality one? I saw some advertised as capable of detecting wires and pipes, have any one used this, does it really work? Wonder how accurate can that be... By the way my budget is only about $100-$150... Like to know what's the best I can get from that price. Thanks! Re: Can anyone recommend a good quality stud finder? 2Mar 17, 2008 12:27 pm There was a black & decker bulls eye, going around. I presume they are still available, they were pretty good for the handy man...
Any hardware store should have them.... Alan, we have 2. 1 is the black and decker bullseye which is great for lining things up (pics etc) as it has a self levelling laser line. 1 is a Ryobi that cost around $50 that does studs as well as 240v and metal etc. This one: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ http://www.tradecounterdirect.com/productinfo.php?pid=344 A good tool for a great price. Re: Can anyone recommend a good quality stud finder? 9Mar 17, 2008 4:43 pm Almost any studfinder will serve you well. And $100 is way too much to pay unless you're on the tools every day.

Neither - I'm just a bit of a live wire Steve Re: Can anyone recommend a good quality stud finder? 16Mar 19, 2008 6:58 am Re the stud finders, get one with the live wire detection capabilities, I have a 15 year old one and while I know how to detect the difference between a wire or a stud behind the plaster, it is easier with the new style units like Matt uses.
Another way if you'cant tell if its a wire or a stud thats under the plaster is to then knock on it and see if it sounds solid there as well.
