Apparently you are supposed to use distilled water in them -- another expensive waste Arfur Re: Streaky floors using a steam mop! 3Jun 04, 2012 12:16 pm I believe the secret is to use minimal water - my DH uses a spray bottle of water with some eucalyptus oil and a microfibre mop ... works a treat! Can you reduce the amount of water that goes on the tiles?? For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: Streaky floors using a steam mop! 6Jun 04, 2012 6:30 pm humble How much was your steam mop? Ours was $600, its been fantastic. We dont use distilled water, just normal bottled stuff. Ooh, what flavour is it? The DW wants one and it's something we've kind of forgotten about... Some people apparently have nothing better to do than comment on other people's sigs. Re: Streaky floors using a steam mop! 7Jun 04, 2012 7:14 pm Our steam mop is useless. Never use it now. The small wall one, however, is great for cleaning grout! And yes, I use distilled water... Re: Streaky floors using a steam mop! 8Jun 04, 2012 8:49 pm It could be that your mop cover is too wet by this stage. We use about 5 per cleaning session to ensure we don't drag a wet cover over the floors. Once done we just chuck'em into the washer when done. Re: Streaky floors using a steam mop! 9Jun 05, 2012 7:47 am I figured that I instinctively treat our different tilings according to the type of grout used with them. Our porcelain tiles (or should I say, the fine "coloured" grout) barely see any water at all. The cement grout used with our ceramic tiles is fine, I don't give it a second thought when cleaning those tiles. But with porcelain, I mainly just swipe the floor with a broom (clean and dry, of course) and then ocassionally wipe the tiles with barely damp cloth (no chemicals and yes, on all fours), taking care not to get into the grout. However, the dust does settle into the grooves very quickly and you can see areas of "discoloured" grout, so I will be getting a strong vacuum cleaner and try to see if that works any bettter Oh, our fine grout has been sealed ... My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Streaky floors using a steam mop! 10Jun 05, 2012 6:53 pm i normally start with a strong vacumm to make sure all dust are cleaned from the surface and grouted area, then steam mop follow by dry fabric before the water dry itself. it's a 2 man/hr job, get your partner to help you become 1hr job. Re: Streaky floors using a steam mop! 11Jun 05, 2012 7:12 pm the guys from beaumont told us not to use one. He said u r just moving dirty water from one area to another. I use handy andy, or metho. Hate streaky floors. Put boiling ester from kettle and put vent on aur conditioner just on fan and ring the mop really tight. Re: Streaky floors using a steam mop! 15Jun 05, 2012 10:00 pm I was told that using a dash of vinegar in hot water will eliminate most pet smells. However if your puppy or kitten does have an accident on hard floors (usually they pick absorbent material such as carpet instead if they can, it's their instinct), there is an enzyme in their wee that can only be removed by a product sold in pet shops. This is why they keeping weeing in the same spot, they can still smell the enzyme. But....I digress.........
