Drafter / Building designer recommendations in Melbourne

Now having wasted money and time on an architect who designed a magnificent but unbuildable extension / renovation (cost issues), we're thinking of just going to a drafter for our brand new home.

I've had someone quote me 8K~10K for the service up to working drawing!!!

What exactly is the going rate for drafters?

Can anyone recommend a good, honest, not too expensive drafter / building designer in Melbourne.

Draftsman quoted me $2000.00 for working drawings ans $500.00 for engineering. In richmond.

i told him what I wanted so he really didnt do any "design", maybe more if he had to design??

Have you gone away from the renovation idea completely?

If not try Extensions Unlimited.

The guys from there offer a no fee draw up and plan of your ideas and costings. They did an extension for a me a while back and we were extremely happy with it!

2k for waorking drawings thats pretty good, cost me 2k for preliminary and another 2.8k for working and I already had a to scale design drawn up and ready for him.

not related to the cost and although not in melbourne I havent been too impressed with matrix design on brisbane the draftsman there has been very slow and not really making the ammendments exactly as specified.
