Browse Forums General Discussion 1 May 24, 2012 10:58 pm We have had our new phone plugged in at the new house for a couple of weeks, keeps the kids happy playing with it but the other night I was there by myself and it rang, scared the crap out of me. Turns out someone has had their phone connected to my new house, managed to find out the phone number and the name of the account owner and apparently the lady died a few years ago. Telstra won't disconnect it and after speaking o 4 different people and spending over an hour on the phone they don't know what to do, tried to lodge a complaint with the TIO but as I'm not the account holder I can't do it over the Internet so will phone them tomorrow an get them to sort it out. Has anyone else had similar issues they got sorted out? If you cant resolve this, leave things as they are and when the account arrives in someone else's name dont pay it -- that might attract their attention. If you are dealing with the cretins at Telstra you have my sympathy, they would be the worst functioning company in the country. When I closed my account with them I kept getting a letter each month, for 18 months, telling me I had around $30 in credit even though they had paid me. Basically you provide proof that you own/rent the premises and Telstra can connect you. Keep pushing this with Telstra and escalate with them if you need to. Paul Deceased person connected their phone in my brand new house! 6May 25, 2012 1:01 pm Also, don't worry too much about getting the other phone disconnected - just request a new line for your house and let Telstra worry about the old one. WOW thats really stung them into action, ONLY 10 days? Wars have started and finished in less LOL Arfur Deceased person connected their phone in my brand new house! 9May 26, 2012 11:35 pm Whoops I meant to say 10 business days, so really 14 days not 10. Yeah they work fast (insert smiley rolling eyes), but I'm not really expecting that it's sorted by then, I'm sure there will be some problem that drags it out for a lot longer. But on the plus I won't have to pay the new home connection of $300 Jasmin Hickinbotham Belmont - modified Signed: February 2011 Slab should go down before 2012 My build thread https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=52310&p=799483#p799483 Re: Deceased person connected their phone in my brand new ho 10May 28, 2012 10:22 am Don't see what Telstra's problem is! When I worked for them I had similar problems from time to time (all rentals!) previous tenants left phone on and new tenants want the phone in their name! Used to be super simple, fax over a lease, in your case I would assume proof of ownership, maybe a settlement document, and they should simply disconnect the line as you live there not someone else!
