Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Mar 12, 2008 3:40 pm Hi Everyone
Just a question and some advice before proceeding. I am about to move into my new home (its 12 months old ) and before moving into it I want it professionally cleaned from top to bottom, I need it cleaned for my own peace of mind as it will be my home for at least another 12 months before my other home will be built etc, to be honest I dont have the time and strength to clean it myself and would rather pay to have it done. I was issued a quotation today for the cleaning (inside and out) and was quoted $420.. I am hoping to receive some feedback on this and am hoping that someone here may have used VIP services at some stage and can give me abit of feedback on them. Thanks everyone *This post is for a friend, not myself Re: Once off home cleaning - VIP home services 3Mar 12, 2008 8:03 pm At that price makes me wish I was still cleaning houses!
How many hours? Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Once off home cleaning - VIP home services 4Mar 12, 2008 8:30 pm Depends on how much you like cleaning.
$420 is a fair bit to pay if the place is in reasonable condition, but if it is a mess, then it may be a good rate considering the work to be done. My wife and her sisters 3 cleaned our new house after we took posession. It took them about 3 hours inside and out. Adrian B Re: Once off home cleaning - VIP home services 6Mar 12, 2008 11:00 pm I'd have a look at the local newspapers and ask them for a few references.
I used to pay $80 per fortnight a few years ago for a cleaner, and was quoted $400 to do some gardening in the carpark at the office. So get a few quotes IMO. Steve Re: Once off home cleaning - VIP home services 7Mar 12, 2008 11:35 pm Paula I would say that is reasonable, my friend pays $300 per fortnight to get her house cleaned (its big though) crikey. my mother came to our slab party and said she was glad she didn't have to clean our house. There is no way I would pay 300 for a cleaner ... I used to pay about 80 bucks for 3 hours for our previous cleaner (who did a fairly crap job I confess ). We had chem dry clean our house before the auction and they did a fantastic job for about 160 for 4 hours. Good cleaners are hard to come by. I'm with you Mish ... we used to clean offices for extra cash when we were students and never earned that much. Re: Once off home cleaning - VIP home services 8Mar 13, 2008 8:44 am rapacious where abouts and what's the size of the house? The house is in Lilydale (melbourne-outer east suburbs) The home is 3 bedroom,2 bathrooms, definitely not large, very compact home indeed. Re: Once off home cleaning - VIP home services 10Mar 13, 2008 9:11 am My observations.....
Professional cleaners are often far from professional. This reinforced by the fact that many people don't see it as anything more than basic labour, assuming that any moron knows how to clean. Many folk employ someone they found advertising in the local rag, or from a supermarket pin-up board, with nothing more than a quick interview. I'm not sure who to recommend, but I suggest being discerning, and be prepared to pay a decent dollar. Its NOT reasonable to expect quality work for peanuts! And make sure whoever you use is covered by at least $5million public liability insurance (check). I have seen literally hundreds of cases where 'cleaners' have spilled chemicals on carpets, causing bleach marks, and all sorts of dumb stuff, and those employing them just shrug. Its probably best to use an agency, where they have police clearances, and have professional liability. Expect quality and respect for your property from the cleaner, and you'll hopefully get it. Ash. PS Tip.... a good cleaner will use decent microfibre technology, and not just spray bottles for everything, and basic cloths. Vacuum and dust for...$420.00 I would want it itemised……I cleaned homes professionally for 6 years here in Nowra. All homes of wealthy people…..who just about cried when I said I wasn’t going to do it anymore. Trust me; I know the short cuts that can be made!!!! Which is why I was so popular……I didn’t do them. Mind you, I was super fit at the time as well!!! No one is expecting anyone to do a thing for peanuts. I understand that if you pay peanuts you will also get peanuts!! I came here to ask opinions and receive some feedback from people who may have some idea or a better insight than that of mine or my friend. However having said that yes I feel that $420 to clean a home that really is not dirty or untidy (it is an empty home with not even furniture) is abit steep. Re: Once off home cleaning - VIP home services 15Mar 13, 2008 9:46 am OK get ya gloves on girl!
Look I dunno if $420 is fair or not. It all depends on what they do for it! All I'm saying is to chase a cheap price will have the obvious outcome. People don't think that apart from someone spending X hours cleaning, there are other important factors. If whilst there, the cheap cleaner from up the street falls off the ladder and breaks a window, what happens then????? She hasn't got $2 to her name to replace the broken window, coz she's just broken her arm! There will be higher costs for an agency or professional biz, but if anything goes awry, they will be in a position to fix it. Ash. Too busy, can’t indulge you at the moment! But I’m sure by now you will know my response. So it would be interesting to see you go tat to toe with yourself!!!! This is an expensive exercise on its own. Maybe base it on $20-30 per hour? Thats what I would expect to be paid if I were doing it Paula Re: Once off home cleaning - VIP home services 19Mar 13, 2008 1:44 pm Paula Amber are they cleaning windows as well? This is an expensive exercise on its own. Maybe base it on $20-30 per hour? Thats what I would expect to be paid if I were doing it Im unsure about the windows, ill try and find that out. even basing it on $20-$30 an hour, in a home that is practically new with minimal to do, you would be looking at quite a few hours on a house that does not need it to equal it up to $420 , unless of course there was a team of people doing it in which I doubt.
