Browse Forums General Discussion 1 May 01, 2012 12:34 pm How much is the cost to swap standard switches in a newly built house to Saturn switches and GPOs (in Perth)? Anyone have any idea on price for supply and install? Thanks Re: Changing Internal Switches 2May 01, 2012 6:27 pm This sounds like to me to be pretty straight forward I think. I am not being sarky with my response. Go to clipsal or even Lawerence and Hanson and get a quote of what they charge. Make sure you have heart defibrelator (?) or tazer on standby to restart your heart. Then ask a sparky how much they charge to change over the switches and powerpoints. Break out the defib and tazer again. I dont like your chances of getting the sparky to buy back your old normal units. This will give you a reasonable idea. If you have the normal sized switches and not the nursing home sized switches like I had in my place, then you wont need to redo the plaster and paint like I had to. Now comes my warning. The clipsal range are visually stunning light switches, especially at night, but in my opinion the construction and materials quality is quite low. My light switches are quite prone to jamming particulary if there has been some dust about. Ie plaster dust, sanding dust. etc. My method to rectify the jamming was to remove the front cover, then use narrow nosed pliers to push/pull the switches a good half dozen or so times before vacuuming the switch and repeating the process a number of times before the switch mechanisms free up. Sometimes just a simple tap of the end of your index finger is enuff to do it. Do not try to think if you push harder that the switch will work. it is knack not brute strength that helps the cause. I have 6 to 8 switches in a box in my garage ready to be returned to clipsal with letter of complaint asking for full refund of the offending parts but i doubt I will get anywhere with them. As I have stated, they are visually stunning, but I would wait until clipsal negotiates with a higher standard factory in china (the stickers say made in china), So that we then get a product whose quality matches the high price tag. Have had no problems with the powerpoints as they use the conventional rocker switches. Am I gonna get sued for defamation for this response?? Jeez I hope not. What about other brands like Legrand or any others you can suggest instead of Saturn switches. Thanks Re: Changing Internal Switches 4May 10, 2012 6:57 pm Sorry for the late answer Aubin. I just got bacl from work last night. Unfortunatly (?) I cant help you much with the other types of switches as we went with the saturns and then found out over time what they were like. If you take care with them they work out pretty good. I still love going downstairs in the middle of the night and not having to turn on any lights due to the glow of the saturns. I'm sorry I'm not much use to you. Cheers Ddgy Roger Re: Changing Internal Switches 5May 21, 2012 10:35 pm I would guess it would be about $20-30 to change the switch in labor (give or take), but you would need a few, not just one! As for the saturn switches, how many buttons? 1 - $36.50+ 2 - $47.50+ 3 - $60.50+ 4 - $65.50+ 5 - $76.50+ 6 - $88.50+ Fan controller - $82.50+ Double GPO - $47.95+ You can find them all here http://sparkydirect.com.au/s/Keyword/saturn/SearchType/0/SortItem/6 They are an online wholesaler, and all prices are + GST I was going to suggest using these http://www.sparkydirect.com.au/p/941443/clipsal---impress-blue-led-mech-20amp-30-series---30pblwe-.html but at $16.50+ per button they are about the same (they fit into the standard clipsal plates!) I am planning to get shelly dimmers added to the non-smart switches that control light. It has no affect on the mechanical functioning of the switch and this is wired… 1 1388 How much are you ahead in payments compared to where the build is at?
