Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Apr 27, 2012 10:02 am Hi all, i recently received a letter from the pest control company that installed the kordon penetration barriers in our new house, stating that the yealy inspection was due. I was a bit shocked by the cost - at $255 (and more for saturday.... how dare we have jobs!) - it seems excessive for what the task is. Additionally, this place sent me the wrong paperwork 3 times and the installation date for the kordon is only 8 months ago - so i dont really have any faith in them - and they come across as just plain d*dgy (apparently that word is banned.... and in a forum about building of all places!) Anyhoo - is $255 or there-abouts usual for this type of service? Re: Termite inspection cost - seems very high. 2Apr 27, 2012 11:08 am I cannot justify 255 for a single inspection but it seems like that's what the market price is (and what i was quoted for as well) and the general market practice of charging mandatory service at a high price. with license to rob is what you call it. Re: Termite inspection cost - seems very high. 5Apr 27, 2012 2:37 pm I would ring around just because they installed Kordon does not mean you have to use them. Re: Termite inspection cost - seems very high. 6Apr 29, 2012 7:32 pm As qualified and accredited timber pest inspector I can give you professional opinion 1 There is no excuse for poor customer service 2 The price quoted seems in the ball park You should understand that every inspection carries liability, costs of insurance and an opportunity for the inspector not only to inspect their work but also to make sure owners(as they often do) do not compromise their termite protection. We are coming onto our second inspection already! Do you need to have the inspection done only by that company, or would your warranty be void if you decided to use someone else?? Re: Termite inspection cost - seems very high. 10May 05, 2012 12:19 pm thnaks for all the replies. 1) yes our warranty becomes void if we use someone else 2) Prices - fair enough, so even though its a bit more than what some others have said, it is in the ball park Have no issue with going elsewhere - if it wasnt for the warranty. I am not convinced that the warranty is worth anything (one thing i have learn over the entire building process is that no tradie or builder takes any responsibility for anything, ever) - but i would prefer not to have to find out.... so that kind of leaves me in the situation of having to use them, just incase something happens and just incase the warranty is worth something. I do like therm "license to rob" - thats a fair description IMO. Re: Termite inspection cost - seems very high. 11May 05, 2012 1:56 pm We’ve only been in this place 5 months but always had the inspections done at our Sydney house by Termguard and the last one cost $180 or thereabouts. If you have the chemical barrier it has to be charged every three years and you pay for that on top of the inspection but this is one of the warranties you must keep valid. It’s not like they just walk up to the house, have a quick look and go either. They go through your house and check every wall internally and externally then they get up in your roof space and check that as well so I consider it as money well spent and as important as home and contents insurance. When we sold our previous house the buyers wanted details showing the insurance company as it was under 7 years old and the only other paperwork they requested was from the pest company showing all inspections were up to date. Also be aware that if you add things made of wood like carports, pergolas, decking, alfresco etc and attach them to your brickwork this will also void your termite warranty. Regards, Grumbles Yes, neither is termite damage that is not covered by your house insurance. 3 6571 4 1827 Hi - thanks for your reply.
