Sammy we're actually having a shower with no screen! It's in a small ensuite and the shower has three walls (as ensuite is skinny) so I don't see a need for a door, and I hate cleaning the shower glass! If you have a shower head that is fixed pointing at the floor, and the right drainage, I think it will be ok. Re: I can't believe they'd have one! 23Mar 10, 2008 10:34 pm Our study will be at the front of the house, but will most definitely have doors and sound proofing! Husband usually has a messy study, but it has to be big enough for my PC as well as his, plus some other gear, and room for storage. The kids will have their space upstairs.
Our downstairs powder room will be close to the living areas, but 'descretely' tucked away around a corner so you are not opening the door onto the living space. This was an important factor when choosing our floorplan! We will be adding doors onto our ensuite, and the toilet is seperate (and behind a closed door!!). As much as I like the idea of a wine rack in the kitchen, there is no way I would be sacrificing my wine in a silly position above the fridge either! Under the island bench is a little better, but it's just another thing that will need cleaning when it collects dust! We will possibly fit out part of our understair storage with racks. I personally can't wait to have a big laundry! The tiny box I have suffered with for 11 years is driving me insane. There is no external access from it, so I have to walk through the house and out the back door with the washing, and I can hardly move in it! Our bigger laundry will have the built in trough with cupboards, and also over head ones. Coming from a house that has virtially NO storage space, I'm getting as much as I can, and I can't wait!! ![]() My main 'urk' (and keep in mind this is just my thing!) is tiles throughout the living areas. I can't stand the sound or feel of grit underneath my feet, and with young kiddies there is no avoiding it! I just think of all that grout that needs to be kept clean as well ![]() I'll be thankful to have anything other than where I am at the moment...waaaay too small for a growing family! I can't think of anything else specific off the top of my head, but I know there are more! Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! I saw one in the display house and wondered who has to clean the wet bathroom after a shower.
Sammy we're actually having a shower with no screen! It's in a small ensuite and the shower has three walls (as ensuite is skinny) so I don't see a need for a door, and I hate cleaning the shower glass! The Sunday Mail was also pushing the less cleaning angle, saying you don't have to clean the glass screen or the grooves under the door. But I'm not convinced. Also in winter it is cosy and warm enclosed in the shower frame, rather than open air. But I'm a cold fish, that may not bother other people? Another thing I find strange is garage doors which have internal access through strange places - like through the laundry or through the walk in pantry. if you are bringing visitors home is that the way you want them to enter your house?? I think opening into the front hallway is the best. Ours opens into the family room which is Ok. what a funny thread ![]() A few' icks' that people dont like, I am having them in my place but I dont mind at all, we all have different tastes ![]() I must admit, many of my 'icks' have already been mentioned. Here are a few more...(IMHO) Strange little rooms off the passage that have no purpose House too big for size of family Rooms that are never used Dinning rooms attached to living area with light carpet and no where near the kitchen Corner spas...Cousins of our have only used theirs once in 3 years ![]() Bedrooms with no views oF the outside eg, windows too high or low...seems to be trendy at the moment Kitchens with inadequate storage or badly designed. Thats all for now ![]() Mrs B Re: I can't believe they'd have one! 28Mar 11, 2008 9:29 am Well Mrs B you included a few more of mine there ... especially the badly designed kitchen - being such a kitchen freak as I am ... I can't believe some of the kitchens I've seen .... ![]() Oh and I can't do the corner spa either myself, I just know we wouldn't use it as much to justify the price ...... Fiona Re: I can't believe they'd have one! 29Mar 11, 2008 10:37 am I dislike houses which attempt to turn hallways and corridors into "rooms" by making them a little wider and giving them a name. Re: I can't believe they'd have one! 31Mar 11, 2008 11:05 am The way I'm feeling I hate everything!!
Can't seem to get the floor plan or facade right!! Drew it on MVH and both hated it!! I did see a display on the weekend, by Comdain, it was perfect (almost - needed bigger laundry, doors on the study and bigger WIR in master), well not so perfect then... One big thing I am trying to achieve is to be able to close upstairs off from downstairs, so both can be able to have TV on or friends and not interfere with each other. Back to drawing board. Paula Re: I can't believe they'd have one! 33Mar 11, 2008 11:23 am Quote: ooh I've been looking for some software to draw our house up, I had a quick look at MVH (googled it). Do you have to be a business to try it? No you dont have to be a business, it cost $5 for CD and about $8.95 (Ithink) to post it. Be warned its not that user friendly... The first attempt I nearly threw the computer through the window ![]() A week later and alot of deep breathing I has another go and got the hang of it a bit better. Managed to do the house in 3D but had trouble putting things in like stacker doors and windows - maybe thats why we didnt like the house, it really didnt give us the true feel... Matt from here loves it, but then maybe he is more of a computer buff than me ![]() Go to the web site and have a look, you may enjoy it. Paula Re: I can't believe they'd have one! 34Mar 11, 2008 11:29 am Thanks! I just bought it, I can't wait!!
Now, to try to force myself to work until 5, then cook dinner and put kids to bed before playing, I think it's going to be a late night! What's with that? Is it like some sort of status thing? Only the really good people get further inside the house? ![]() Re: I can't believe they'd have one! 38Mar 13, 2008 6:12 pm ![]() I hate seeing spa baths in every bloody display home bathroom. In this time of heavy water restrictions, I find this not only impractical but irresponsible. Fiona Absolutley!!!!!!! My father in law is building, him and his partner pretend to be greenie's - but they are having a spa bath and complain about the size of water tank that our local council is making them put in. MAKES ME ANGRY!!!!! Re: I can't believe they'd have one! 39Mar 13, 2008 8:57 pm Mikita, we are having a sitting room, (formal lounge, whatever you call it) near the front door, lounge and main bedroom are either side of the entry hallway, in our case its not a status symbol, its not even a large house (166m2 plus garage) I wanted a separate quiet adult TV area away from main activity, noise and traffic area of open space kit/meals/family, it can be closed off with bifold doors or left open. Visitors coming in can either go from entry hall into lounge or bypass it to end of hallway which leads into casual living area.
I guess the thing when planning every room or section of a house is to look at your lifestyle (and your price range!) ask yourselves whether you will use it regularly, so in our case yes to a separate lounge but no to ,say, a separate study or separate dining room. Ask the council if there is a chance of getting build over easement exemption. Sometimes easements are unused and 24cm is not all that much. Good luck. And yes any builder… 2 3279 ![]() HIA contract signed a couple of years ago with clear terms to increase contract price by X% if the build doesn't start by Y months.
