Toilets that open directly into thoroughfares, like main hallways etc, particularly when they are located close to kitchen, dining or family areas.
Add a self closing mechanism to the door ???

Not sure if that makes me a rebel LOL , more likely an old fuddy-duddy Re: I can't believe they'd have one! 63Mar 15, 2008 7:23 am Mikita When my husband and I first started looking at display homes we couldn't believe the amount of homes that have a sitting room right near the front door. What's with that? Is it like some sort of status thing? Only the really good people get further inside the house? Seemed very strange to us - especially when it was in addition to the study, lounge, living area etc. We got to the point where we would open the front door and if we saw one of those rooms, we'd close it again and move to the next one. We kind of have one of these and have also added sliding doors to it. We also have a lounge/living/meals at the back with the kitchen and a tv room upstairs. We're a bit different in that we have decided to use this front room as the kids play room for now. We plan for the back to be toy free but this front room will have little Ikea Lack style tables disguised as coffee tables for painting and crafts and book shelf with games and crafts. The lounge in here will be a fold out for guests and have an easily removable cover for washing, so we don't have to stress about paint etc on it. We thought this way this way we can hang out in here, read books, do puzzles, paint etc, and then close it all away!! Re: I can't believe they'd have one! 64Mar 15, 2008 7:27 am First_Timer_Ray LOL Fiona - I never did that... I thought the overwhelming amount of pink would attest to that - yet I still got asked once in the supermarket by an old man "is it a boy or a girl?" - what the...? Maybe he was colourblind. Ray. LOL Ray. We got that a lot from Chinese people, like at our fave chinese restaurant and in china town. Maybe in China pink doesn't necessarily mean girl!? Not sure if that makes me a rebel LOL , more likely an old fuddy-duddy I think you can walk into a house and think ... this is beautiful but why did they put that wall there. Someone else will walk in and think the wall is just perfectly placed. I like the idea of a sink under the window ... that way you have a view of the garden and natural light coming in. I also like the idea of facing your guests when you are chopping up food; but then I could probably build a few more houses with all the conflicting ideas in my head . Sometimes we make safe selections because we are thinking of resale value rather than what might work for the family living there. That is not a bad thing ... we were thinking of painting the facade red at one stage . Re: I can't believe they'd have one! 68Mar 17, 2008 5:32 pm I'm always amazed at how many people stare out the window while using their sinks...what are you doing at your sink that doesn't involve looking at what you are doing?
Sinks have been traditionally placed under windows for the lighting benefits, a concept which dates back to when your average "you beut" kitchen was luxurious enough to have a dedicated light bulb in the middle of the ceiling. Oh and I agree about the wine racks as well - I have been trying to explain this to clients for years, but it was always "so popular"...total self gratification...unless they are used for storing bourbon...in which case they are simply gratifying. Re: I can't believe they'd have one! 69Mar 17, 2008 5:48 pm Hands up for self gratification guys!
There would be a few married fella's amongst us Anyway... I like the fact that we have instant access to our wine. We are not connoisseurs but to have it here when cooking / to have with dinner is very convenient. I agree with above fridges etc but in a dark corner with no sunlight I think is fine. Quote: I also like the idea of facing your guests when you are chopping up food; the point about not staring out onto garden when you should be watching what your'e doing also applies to island benches - I mean, should you be looking at your guests, or anything but the job in hand, while your'e chopping?? And its not about quality of lighting for me - I don't want any lighting to be required during the day except natural light through the window, not keen on those 'internal' kitchens in which you would need the lights on any time of day (unless you had a skylight) and I also want natural ventilation, in other words to have a window to open to outside. Anyway, aren't you supposed to be chasing down some reputed postees of negotiable affection? Or was that of noticeable affliction? Ask the council if there is a chance of getting build over easement exemption. Sometimes easements are unused and 24cm is not all that much. Good luck. And yes any builder… 2 13781 Very common on rendered homes Smaller suppliers get the lower quality raw materials 6 11869 |
