Can any give some feedback on Foam Board, good, bad, ugly or otherise. Pro and cons ? Thanks in advance Re: Foam Board Outer Walls (Rendered Styrene) 2Apr 20, 2012 1:24 pm If you mean polystyrene (ie the stuff tv etc come pack in) and then cement rendered we have that on the top half of our house. It has fantastic insulating properties, don't quote me on the figures but we were told that the foam render is R3.5 or something and brick veneer is R0.5 (obviously before wall insulation!!!). As well as the foam we put R2.5 batts in the main wall we were concerned about as it is west facing and used to be unbearable in the summer. Although we have had a super crappy summer the few hot days we had we were amazed to find the internal wall still felt cool to the touch. IT is also meant to be stronger if hit by something. It does sound hollow and little weird when you knock on it though which takes a bit of getting used to. I would use a can of expandable foam ( there are some that will take render) then cut it back and render over the top 1 4143 The spacing of the studs looks pretty large especially for a load bearing wall. 3 11117 There is nothing in the various codes and standards that puts this requirement on the builder to do. I think that is what you are asking. Don't waste time trying to get… 5 2403 |
