Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Apr 17, 2012 11:05 am Hello, We would love some building advice on how to build a timber (picket type) front fence above an existing concrete footing. The footing is very strong, thick concrete - approx 20cm wide and 20cm high above the ground. It was to form the basis of a brick fence. It is located right on our front boundary! It is pretty ugly! It needs to stay as it helps prevent unwanted water flooding our property in heavy rains! We understand that for a picket fence one would usually install/ concrete in vertical poles at regular intervals - and then attach horizontal posts etc... We can't attach our poles to the front of the footing - as that would go beyond our property; and doing so behind the footing would expose the ugly lump of concrete. Is there a way to drill them into the footing? What would we use to do this? Would it cause the concrete footing to crack! Many thanks... novice fence builders!!!! If you drill a 55mm hole then you could use a 50x50 Alum post used for pool fencing. Re: Building picket fence above concrete footing 3Apr 19, 2012 9:28 pm I would try to attach the posts with a metal post support onto the concrete. The post support is a sort of shoe that is bolted to the concrete and the post sits in the shoe. Ask at your local hardware. @builderforlife Building inspector and passionate about construction When you need an expert to take a look. yep sounds good make the footing bigger to to allow for the pipe in the middle 3 7316 PM me your email. I have a build excavation calculator you can use based on your plans to double check what your builder is telling you. Cheers Simeon 1 10236 I've dug some footings to embed a post anchor into. My holes are around 450mm deep which I'll put a 200mm stirrup into. The bottom of these holes seem firm enough. … 0 3313 |
