Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Apr 13, 2012 10:04 am Im back! After trying to get my partners name on the deed of the farm and failing we have decided to build in town. Its upset us both, we wanted our kids to grom up on the farm, not have to have to drive out there and then drive home every day. But we couldnt convince his mohter, who isnt even on the deed *shakes head* So we have put an offer on a block which has been accepted, and now we need to start looking at builders again. Our block has an awesome view of the hills and ocean, but we need to build it on stumps as theres quite a fall at the front of the block. Plus we want to sit on our back deck and enjoy the view. We spoke to one builder, who is local, and he wants $300k for a house on stumps and a rendered polystyrene finish. It isnt a big house we are looking at as the block is only 749sqm. I thought that was a bit steep for a house like that. We like on of Gallery Livings designs, but they wont build on stumps, but Sarah Homes will and use hebel. The house will, or so we have been told, be 2-2.5m above ground level at the back to get the views. Any info on these builders would be great! Ive built with Fairmont, and loved it. But never built with hebel. TIA Re: Has anyone used Sarah Homes in Adelaide 2Apr 15, 2012 2:10 pm It all comes down to taste. Ive witnessed a two storey one being built at Christies Beach and looked at the Sarah display in today's Sunday Mail and personally they all look like shacks. Why are you not cutting a level 'pad' on your block, rather than have it stuck up on stumps? Is it just for the view? Arfur Re: Has anyone used Sarah Homes in Adelaide 3Apr 15, 2012 11:26 pm Part view, part cost. I think a split level home on a slab will be way out of our budget. We have been messed around by the bank. We sold our place with the intention of building, but have now been told we can borrow $100k less than what they first told us. So we need to build a cheaper home than we first wanted. Has anyone used Sarah Homes in Adelaide 4Apr 16, 2012 10:11 am I have seen quite a few Sarah homes around, a friend built one through them a few years ago and was quite happy. This is more of a way of getting back into the market as well. Its our five year plan. After this, we build our dream home one acreage. So it is going to be built with resale value in mind. Cheap, but not nasty cheap. Its in a good spot, in a holiday town. So it will become a "shack" I suppose lol. Thankyou for your replies, I cant wait to start my own thread soon!!!!
