After watching one of our future garden beds (nothing but clay and weeds at the moment) over the past 2 years, I've noticed that it tends to become an impromptu swimming pool after rain and the water tends to sit there for a couple of days. I've resigned myself to having to put in a sump pit and pump as there is nowhere for me to direct the water to go.
Fortunately, the stormwater outflow to the street is nearby and I can connect the pump output to that pipe. The potential problem is that the stormwater pipe is essentially level and relies on the overflow from the tank to "force" the water to the street. If I were to connect the sump pump to the top of the stormwater pipe using a Y-junction:
- Would that setup work?
- Will the pressure of the pump cause any issues in the stormwater pipe (eg. water going in the wrong direction)
- If for whatever reason the pump isn't on, will water come out of the stormwater pipe and flow into the sump connection? Or will the position of the Y-junction stop this?
Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
