Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Mar 19, 2012 7:41 pm Looking to self build a 7 meter x 6 meter x 2.7 meter Double Car Garage on my block. Have all the approvals forms form the council ready to send off. Just cannot decide what brand of shed to buy (In Perth)! I've been to see quite a few various brands at their display sites etc. Style of construction is different between most of the major suppliers. Some have portal frames and others have trussed roof for example and the prices seem to vary quite a lot. I just wish to buy the shed in kit form and erect it myself as an owner builder. Being under 20K the local council are OK with that. Can anyone recommend a brand that they have personal experience with? I am the sort, who at some stage might want to lift a car engine out one day - (Guess these days Id hire an engine crane but) in years gone bye I might have used an endless chain off the roof truss if I thought it was engineered strong enough to carry the weight. I really would like a decent strong shed rather than something made from case hardened plasticine that can barely carry its own weight. I see one place (non names) brings in all its materials from china and they LOOK like a decent portal frame shed out of rolled hollow section and all engineered and hot dip galvanized and reasonably priced... It just seems "too good to be true" as the old saying goes... what if the ship sinks on the way out here from China with my she don it etc... Id sooner support a local manufacturer with Australian Materials like Blue scope steel a B&D Roller door, Trussed angle iron roof etc... I'd appreciate if anyone knows of a GOOD supplier if a superior product in Perth in the outdoor Metal shed / Garage business. Have lived in the bush for the last 30 years so not up with who all the good suppliers are now days in Perth. Anyone who's had a good run from a local company I'd appreciate the heads up - many thanks in advance. Cheers & Beers from me - big ears! ;o) Madness takes it's toll - please have exact change handy! Re: Double Car Metal Garage Suppliers! 2Apr 04, 2012 4:02 am What no one in WA has built a metal garage - and can recommend a supplier? Stratco Outdoor world Shed Maker Cheap Sheds Avalon Sheds My heads already spinning from all the manufacturers I've seen.....many seem pretty cheap 'n nasty - there must be a good supplier that someones come across and had a good experience with? Heck some places don't even quote after 3 weeks and 2 followup requests for the quote! Anyone? Cheers! Re: Double Car Metal Garage Suppliers! 3Apr 04, 2012 11:02 am If you have an owner builder permit why not visit a local engineering shop with a design for your frame and have them cost it for you to be made with the comps for the council. You can then order your top hat section or C purlin for the roof and walls an then the required amount of sheeting. At least that way you will get a shed that you can be confident of to do what you want. I take the trouble to go visit them personally and inspect their display shed - and they can't even return a quote? I'm beginning to wonder whats wrong with some of these businesses these days. Cheers! Re: Double Car Metal Garage Suppliers! 5Apr 04, 2012 6:46 pm We had our kit supplied by Ranbuild. We have been really happy with it. Not sure about the strength or anything but here are a few pics from when it was empty. I don't seem to have one that shows the trusses in detail. http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff245/rebel_radar/DSCN1403.jpg http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff245/rebel_radar/DSCN1405.jpg http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff245/rebel_radar/DSCN1404.jpg Hope this helps. Re: Double Car Metal Garage Suppliers! 6Apr 04, 2012 10:15 pm WE just had our shed built by some local blokes from a kit that they produce. All 6x2 RHS rated I believe to about 300kg on the roof. All posts the same and flange and bolted, no tek screws with a sheetmetal overlay to hold together (no offence fairy blue). Only 900 spacings on top hat roof and walls. Yes it was not that cheap but then again not that expensive. It was a lot stronger than much poorer manufactured sheds I look at. All I can say is look around at a specialist supplier and find a "good strong" shed you like. Surprisingly enough there will not be that much difference. The company I looked at had… 1 6483 |
