Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Mar 17, 2012 8:43 am Having a problem with our electrical dryer - every time we turn it on it works briefly and then shorts out the mains power. Was wondering if this was most likely a problem with our trip switch (in which case we needed to get an electrician out) or our dryer (in which case we need to get a new one). Anyone have any thoughts? Re: Power cutting out with dryer 2Mar 17, 2012 9:02 am I'd guess the dryer... What else do you have running on the same circuit? If you have other things that use a lot of power (fridge, dishwasher, microwave?), and they're not causing any issues, then it's likely to be the dryer. Maybe try plugging something else into that power point and see what happens. Re: Power cutting out with dryer 3Mar 17, 2012 9:04 am Oh - check your dryer's manual too. I'm sure you clean the lint filter, but there might be some other maintenance task that needs regular attention - especially if it's a condenser dryer. We find that our toaster trips the circuit-breaker if we forget to clean the crumbs out regularly. They must catch fire and overheat the appliance or something.... Once we clean it out, it's fine again. Re: Power cutting out with dryer 4Mar 17, 2012 10:11 am You can test that easily - either A) plug the dryer into a different socket somewhere else (a good distance away) in the house (you'll need a fair bit of extension cord to do so) or B) plug another appliance with a similar power draw to the dryer into the same socket that the dryer is normally plugged into. If you're trying the option A) and the dryer works without tripping a circuit breaker or option B) and the other appliance also trips the breaker then it's probably the circuit the power point you're currently using for the dryer that is faulty. If the dryer works when plugged into a different socket and/or the other appliance doesn't work when plugged into the socket the dryer is normally plugged into then it is probably the circuit itself. If the dryer doesn't work elsewhere and you can get something to work when plugged into the socket you normally use for the dryer then the dryer might be the problem. Some people apparently have nothing better to do than comment on other people's sigs. Would also like an opinion from anyone that has used xcem over hebel for floors.
