Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Aug 22, 2012 3:51 pm Hi all Have been in our new house for 5 months now. First big problem. At some point, the flue on the central heating system has been replaced with a metal flue, which is apparently non compliant. The heating company said they would get someone to fix it. Its an open ended pipe, allowing water to get in, and we are in a bushfire BAL 29 zone. We have photo evidence from before handover that the flue was in this condition. Heating company now says it was tampered with, they never installed it and will not touch it. We haven't touched it - why would we, its on the second storey roof and we had no problems with the heating etc. Henley is refusing to act and denying responsibility, despite the photo evidence. Can someone please advise then next step to resolve this? Photo of the flue below. (the pipe across the middle is from the air con unit- which is just out of frame) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Uploaded with ImageShack.us H's Emperor Q1 on acreage Site cut 16/6/11 Slab 2/8 Frame 29/8 Tiles 9/9 Bricks 13/10 Plaster 2/11 Fittings 28/11 PCI 19/3 Re: Dispute with builder over incorrectly installed flue 2Aug 22, 2012 8:44 pm Hi cookie-monster You could try Consumer Affairs if you are in Vic. or equivalent in any other state. Its good that you have photo evidence. Any dealings with the builder should be in writing and if they refuse to fix get them to put it in writing and give reasons. To mee it seems a straightforward defect and the builder is just trying luck or can't be bothered. The fact that it is non compliant is a serious issue ( perhaps a fire risk or a bushfire risk). You don't need to deal with the heating company (I assume heating was part of the build job) because it is builder's responsibility. Try that and let us know the response. The heating was part of the build, so they are definitely responsible for fixing it.
