Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Dining Tables - help 3Mar 16, 2012 2:16 pm Hi, we went for a thick laminated glass top dining table. Very unusual, it's liked cracked glass (if you can imagine a smashed windscreen). Looks really different, love it. We opted for white dining chairs, but if I had my time again would have gone the brown ones instead (to match brown leather lounge suite). White is just not practical with still having young kids. I went for the white to match the bar stools .. but again, should have gone brown in those too. The dining top is easy to clean, and no scratches, very hard wearing .. but even if there was a scratch it would be hard to see Have a look at show homes and see what you like, or go to an online realestate site (opentoview is a good one) and click through their photos, I did this heaps to get ideas ... Re: Dining Tables - help 5Mar 17, 2012 7:08 pm We got a natural oak table from Everyday living. If you want to choose different colour, there is a small furniture shop in Narellan shopping centre that does orders. It's slightly more expensive, but still cheaper then harvey norman for the good quality wood. Re: Dining Tables - help 6Mar 17, 2012 7:21 pm Know what you mean..... i am tossing between one made of recycled thick load bearing beams laminated together versus a solid slab table. Both will be very heavy but just have not see too many that will seat two at teh ends and 3 or 4 down the sides.... The table is only half of it, the chairs are just crazy ex when looking at getting 10. Ends up costing more than the table but I guess there is a lot more work in a chair..... Good luck... Dining Tables - help 7Mar 17, 2012 9:05 pm Hi We got this setting http://www.1825interiors.com.au/products/collections/brighton?product=brighton-2500x1050-dining-package for about $300 less than the price listed on the web site during a sale - when you look at the price of the chairs the table was basically free. The top of the table and the chair seats are sandblasted recycled timber so hopefully the kids won't be able to destroy it, just add to the patina. Paul Re: Dining Tables - help 8Mar 18, 2012 10:01 am We built ours! We wanted a square table that still fit 8 people but couldn't find anything we liked. People didn't laugh at us too much...until we told then we'd never built a table before and were basing the design/condtruction on, well , having seen tables before... It helped that we wanted a rustic style so most of it was just bolting together some pine followed by a stain and varnish. The top has some small gaps where the wood has shrunk but new friends are really surprised when they hear we made it (nice to know they couldn't tell:) Today is under construction. Thank you for understanding. Re: Dining Tables - help 9Mar 18, 2012 11:39 am Hey Lot927, I do envy your grey carpet. . . You can have an colours you like with it. . . I would just continue the theme of white or chocolate brown, and paint a really nice feature wall (or wallpaper - Masters at Narellan have great wallpaper), and add more contrasting colours with cushions, table runners and other accessories. It's cheap and easy to change accessories if you decide to change the colour scheme. Actually, Gogo65 got a really nice big dining table & chairs, check out her thread. Re: Dining Tables - help 10Mar 19, 2012 9:16 pm We are looking for a table too but we also haven't found what we want. But some great tips and photo's, thanks for sharing. taki there is a small furniture shop in Narellan shopping centre that does orders. It's slightly more expensive, but still cheaper then harvey norman for the good quality wood. Could you let me know the details of this shop in Narellan? I haven't seen it when we have been there. Because we haven't found a table we like we are thinking we will get one custom made by a cabinet maker (DH has contacts through work apparently!). But we won't be ordering anything til later this year/ early next year (so still window shopping). We built the Wisdom Majestic 40 - moved in! The chairs for the table cost more than the table itself... But in the end we found the style we wanted and we also have fallen in love with our lounge choices... I just need to work out how to post up a pic! We have on order all of it, it will not be ready until 2 June but thats ok because our house is going so so slow.... worst SS ever! We did get a discount, a full 10%, but the total quote was for $14K and then we got 10% off that. We did a one stop shop with two different lounge suites, bar stools, dining table and chairs and a side coffee table. I will upload some pics...
