Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Technika Oven Exploded 21Mar 16, 2012 9:40 am Part of the reason I like to cook is that I find it relaxing. Worrying about whether my Technika oven is going to explode at any time behind me definately wrecks the mood. But yeah, they shouldn't be allowed to make the ovens capable of getting that hot if there's a real risk of glass failure. Bah fooey Our oven was already here when we moved in. I've also noticed that the coating on the inside of the oven is on its way out. One side down the bottom looks like crackle paint & bits of it come off when you wipe it down with a sponge. Re: Technika Oven Exploded 22Mar 18, 2012 8:00 am We might need to start buying the little portable ovens that you can take outside ... just make sure the oven doors are pointing to "nothing much" ... and good old fashioned kettle bbqs for larger roasts ... What a joke. Having the temperature selector available but "not supposed" to select a high temperature?? Aren't the manuals recommending that we "clean" (prepare) the oven before the first use by running it on the highest setting for several hours?? Tc tc tc tc .... Re: Technika Oven Exploded 25Mar 19, 2012 9:54 pm Hmmm... mines an electric technika also and I remember seeing ACA do the story of the exploding glass. Don't have a manual so can't check any model number. The glass has an odd discolouration to it so I wonder if that's a problem. edit: here it is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2pk4mxSATvo Technika Oven Exploded 27Mar 20, 2012 1:09 am Just a couple of things on the ACA video. 1) I've never heard of D'Amani, Emilia or the Andy watsit brands. Do they still exist/have distributors in Australia? 2) I think the glass used is "safety" glass. This means that when it "shatters" it doesn't form splinters and shards, but rather, forms those rounded bits of glass. Of course, when there's a force behind it, it's still gonna hurt and possibly even break the skin. But I don't think it's likely to 'cause life-threatening injury to an adult. 3) Who would let their kids play around a VERY hot oven in their kitchen?! I know when I was a kid, my mother put the fear of death into me when it came to hot stoves and ovens. It took a while for me to go near one, even though I'd been deemed old enough by my mother (about 12 years old). Ok, now you can all pick on me for not having children, and how would I know until I have my own, yada, yada, yada.... Re: Technika Oven Exploded 28Mar 20, 2012 6:38 am I think you're safe. There's one or two of us in H1 that, for whatever reason, don't have kids, unless you count d/h - they're usually like kids in the kitchen ... wait, weren't they a one-hit wonder band from the 80's? "Whoever says sunshine brings happiness has never danced in the rain!" Re: Technika Oven Exploded 29Mar 20, 2012 7:17 am ^ Kids in The Kitchen were definitely NOT a one hit wonder!! As for D'amani, all my kitchen appliances supplied with my Henley home are this brand. I understand they are rebadged Lofra (but don't quote me!). I have heard of the glass exploding before, but nothing has happened to my wall oven (fingers crossed). We don't use it on the highest setting. Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! They just finally replaced the whole thing. Hinges apparently a problem on the model we have and means the oven does not seal and leaves about a 10mm gap which the heat escapes from. Re: Technika Oven Exploded 32Mar 20, 2012 4:31 pm Andy was sold at Clive Peeters... We looked into get one in their going out of business sale. A quick google brought up heaps of exploding door posts so left there pretty quickly. However a friend of ours who is a huge cook (think real Italian mum here) had a very expensive branded oven (can't remember the brand but it was worth a fortune) for 10 years or so. One day when we were all over there for lunch we were in the lounge room and heard a large pop, turns out her oven door glass had exploded!!!! Thankfully no one was in the kitchen as although most just cracked in the door, some small bits did go flying. Re: Technika Oven Exploded 34Mar 20, 2012 9:07 pm d@n For those that have had their oven explode, was your glass hot or cold to touch?... (prior to the explode). No idea D@n - Fortunately I was not in the kitchen but presume it was hot. The explosion shattered the inside glass only (apparently the outside glass can shatter too). Oven must have blown open when it exploded because I had glass over kitchen floor as well as in oven. The glass was shattered in 'safety' pieces. (I hope not, as that is the brand of my oven - it was already installed when we moved in, I'm not an aspiring cook) I have to say, I had never heard of "exploding" ovens before this thread, and never even considered it to be a risk whatsoever. Re: Technika Oven Exploded 39Jun 19, 2013 9:28 am Technika did replace the whole door under warranty. We didn't get them to fix the tiles as we have others in the house we'll fix ourselves later on. No biggy. Technika's explanation was that the installers can often slam the oven door shut which can cause hairline fractures in the glass. Over time these get bigger and can cause the glass to explode under heat or when cooling down. They advised to not put the oven over 210 degrees ever. They said most explosions occur when cooling down. Life is; then you tell yourself a story. Re: Technika Oven Exploded 40Jun 19, 2013 10:14 am oze Technika did replace the whole door under warranty. Then in time, the different expansion rates over the glass area will cause fractures and in the end, result in shattered glass all over the kitchen.
