Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Mar 12, 2012 10:26 pm Hi All, My partner and I are about to put a deposit down for a block of land in Harrington Grove. We are really excited about it, but after doing a lot of research in the area we have come across the Camden Gas Project. AGL plan to construct and operate 12 gas wells on 3,900ha of land between Camden Valley Way and the M5 Motorway, from Mount Annan Botanic Gardens and up to Denham Court Road. Has anyone looked into this? Is this project actually going ahead? They are planning on putting one of these gas wells just on the other side of Camden Valley Way, between The Hermitage and Gregory Hills. My main concern would be the noise, the potential threat to air and water quality in the area and the possible reduction in property value. Has anyone submitted a letter to Camden Council saying they object to the project? If so, have you received a response back of any sort? Re: Camden Gas Project 2Mar 13, 2012 8:48 am Hi, my wife and I recently just bought a block of land in harrington grove, I read about the Camden Gas Project but apparently they are everywhere already but you don't really notice them because theyre small? Re: Camden Gas Project 3Mar 21, 2012 9:19 am Yeah I have heard a lot of things about this since I became aware of it about a year ago. Coal Seam Gas wells (CSG) is what you are talking about. Yes, there is a plan, but at the moment it is only a plan. And I think - and it is only a 'think' - that the state government approves the sites or not??? There is a group against it, but cannot recall what their name is. And yes, there are some that are in place and have been for a while - around Menangle and Camden - and you probably haven't even realised it before. Don't think there is much noise that comes along with them, but that should really be the last of your worries. The things I've looked at are allegations about the chemicals that are pumped into the ground in order to extract the gas. Lots of cases in the U.S. where apparently the chemicals used in 'fracking', as it is called, have caused damage to land etc etc. Not sure if anything can be proved or not, it's like an Erin Brokovich case at the moment. But anyway Harrington Grove is far enough away from where the sites they are currently exploring for possible future CSG wells so there shouldn't be any real concern for you.
