Hi all,
My wife and I recently purchased a property which down the track we intend to bowl over and build on the block. We are hoping to rent out the property for a couple of years.
A past owner decided to convert the front paved courtyard into a living space. The room is water tight but I am very concerned about the flooring. Carpet has been laid directly onto the pavers! The existing carpet does not appear to be damaged at all so I suspect the previous owners may have replaced the carpet prior to putting it on the market.
As far as I can see (please correct me if I have missed anything as I am quite green when it comes to the building and renovating stuff) I have two options:
1. Lift up the carpet and somehow seal the pavers and re-lay carpet. What could I use to seal them? Or would I need to pour concrete? Once sealed could I then re-lay carpet.
2. Lift up the carpet to expose original pavers and leave the area as an enclosed, weather-proof courtyard meaning i'd need to put new window and front door in their original locations.
Considering that the job only really needs to last for around 1 1/2 years which is my best option? Any advice would be very much appreciated.
