Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Feb 01, 2012 9:22 pm We are in the process of making some final decisions about our complete bathroom renovation, and one of the lingering things is whether to rip out the existing window and replace with something more modern? As you can see by the pic below, it is not particularly pretty, but there is nothing functionally wrong with it. The main concern is how it will look with a brand spanking new bathroom with floor to ceiling tiles (can obviously paint & perhaps change the bevelling on it). The other aspect is that we are also currently getting quotes to render the outside back wall, which this window backs on to, so we need to make some decisions soon as this will also be affected depending on what decisions we make. The new bathroom will have a vanity in the same spot & my wife is adament she wants the mirror above the vanity, but I cant see how that is possible without ripping the entire window out (and I can see the $$$ draining if we go down that path). Re: Bathroom Window Dilemma - Help needed asap. 2Feb 02, 2012 12:29 am I guess the rest of your windows are timber too, so if you replace it with anything else it will look odd With rendering the outside wall you could remove the window, brick up the left hand side and put a smaller window in the remaining half, to create room for the mirror over the LH half, however this will make the room darker and you may need a skylight. Its harder to look into a mirror with natural light coming from the same direction. Personally I wouldn't go this way. Or you take the cheaper option and remove the nosing (sill) along the base of the window, which is a give-away to its age, and tile into the reveals attaching a larger mirror to the side wall. OR even turn the vanity onto the side wall, with the mirror above and leave the window, removing the nosing Arfur Re: Bathroom Window Dilemma - Help needed asap. 3Feb 02, 2012 7:59 am Hi, If you want the vanity in the same place with a mirror above it I don't think you have any option but to remove the window. Are you able to have a narrow window placed higher in the room? Re: Bathroom Window Dilemma - Help needed asap. 4Feb 02, 2012 8:41 am What would look nice would be a long window on either side with the vanity mirror on the wall in the middle - if you are going to the expense of rendering etc it seems silly not to spend the extra to finish the job properly ... and you might regret it later - although it would probably cost a bit. Look what I found on the internet ... you can have a window and a mirror ....
