Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jan 27, 2012 11:35 pm Hi All We are in the design phase of a new home and thinking about hot water systems but I am sooooo confused and really need some expert advice from you all. So the deal is currently we have a Rinnai Infinity Gas Instaneous Hot Water system and for the most part its great, however we were hoping to go with Solar in the next house - you know trying to be green and cut the bills down. I looked into the Hills Evac Tube system but at almost $8500 . It kind of puts it out of the budget. I have also had quotes from Edwards and Solahart which are better - between $3-5K but am concerned about the lifespan of these systems. I have read that between storage tanks bursting and rusting out and anode problems the systems are only good for 5-7 years. Can anybody give me some advice and opinions on the above or even a recommendation on a good system (does'nt have to be solar - just not electric.) Thanks Re: Hot Water Systems - Recommendations/Advice 2Jan 28, 2012 5:46 am Sorry, can't help with your question but just wondered what you mean by 'for the most part its great'. Have you had problems with your present system? We decided this time to go with the Rannai again but this time we are putting in the enviro model. It uses less gas than the others... it has a 7 star energy rating. It seemed like a reasonable compromise for us. We are still building so can't comment on how good it is... time will tell I guess! Re: Hot Water Systems - Recommendations/Advice 4Jan 28, 2012 8:39 am The apricus evacuated tube systems are quite good. Around 4-6k installed. A lot of issues with all hot water type can be solved with roughing in the pipework better. Not having large runs creating a long delay, or by setting up a ring main to circulate hot water. I find mostly simpler is better, a Rinnai Infinity is a good choice. Have you had problems with your present system? Not problems so much just firstly water temp is not high enough for the kitchen - Our fault should have done more research and got the one with the higher water temp. Secondly in Summer the system always cuts out because there is not enough water pressure flow. So it gets rather annoying when your hot water keeps cutting out everytime you want to put some cold into it. Thanks Rocketship will check out that Enviro Model out. Sounds like a good alternative james_d The apricus evacuated tube systems are quite good. Around 4-6k installed.
