I have had a look around the forums but can't find anything that relates to our problem. We included a couple of solartubes in our plans and are now at the beginning of our build. We had hoped to buy them from somewhere like Bunnings. Unfortunately we are in a BAL 12.5 zone and I can't find any of the solartubes/skydomes etc that say they comply. Most have polycarbonate domes and they wouldn't comply. I found one that says they have 4mm toughened glass square tops (sun tunnels from Velux), and thought I had found an answer. I contacted them and was told that because they hadn't been "Tested" that we couldn't use them. This guy was rather UN-helpful.
I would have assumed that if they have what is required as far as AS3959-2009 ie toughened 4mm a class glass that we would be able to use them but he says NO. In fact his words were "They do not conform to AS 3959 as they have not been through the testing.
"It will not matter if they comply with certain aspects of the standard if they have not been tested and passed the tests required, in this case they have not been tested."
So back to square one. We are on a very tight budget and he wanted to push us to their skylights which comply with BAL40 - over the top for us. Maybe we should just buy them (the sun tunnels) and just put them in, hoping that our certifier will be ok.
Anybody got any suggestion? Please, I really need some help with this.
Thanks all and keep up the good work everybody
