I wouldn't be happy with one double in the middle. The auto garage door has it's own light in the middle activated when the door goes up. Our ex-rental had a single double and it used to drive me nuts that I couldn't see things well enough when I was ratting about looking for stuff in storage boxes etc Re: Lighting options in Double Garage 5Jan 23, 2012 1:32 pm THanks Trinity... I think i will go ahead with the two double 1mtr lights.. sounds like a good idea.. the other half wants to use part of the extended garage for work anyways. Re: Lighting options in Double Garage 6Jan 23, 2012 1:43 pm We are almost at the electrical stage in our build and i am going to have 4 x 1 metre double globe fluros put in our garage. Being a mechanic i can never have enough light. It will also be very handy if we ever decide to use the garage for entertaining. This is also very possible with us as we have a drive through with a roller door on the backyard side of the garage Re: Lighting options in Double Garage 7Jan 23, 2012 2:01 pm We have a roughly 6.5metre by 7 metre garage. We have 4 single 1metre length lights with cages around them to protect them a little from bumps etc. It is fine for sorting through all our stuff that has been stored in there. Although I wouldn't want to fix a car by just that light. Re: Lighting options in Double Garage 9Jan 23, 2012 5:48 pm Yeah i guess when your a mechanic you need all that light... i think for our needs tho one double 1200mm long would do us in the middle of the garage. Re: Lighting options in Double Garage 10Jan 29, 2012 7:42 am I regret not getting a two way light switch for my garage (turn it off or on an both internal door and external door). Sometime I can be outside and use the external door, it pretty hard to get across the garage without tripping on something tring to get to the light switch next to the internal door. Yeah never thought of that.. Sounds like a good suggestion Re: Lighting options in Double Garage 12Jan 30, 2012 1:28 pm We currently have 2 1m fluros in our garage - not sure if they're single or double. Either way there's plenty of light, the only thing that annoys me about having fluros is that if I need the light on, it's usually only to grab something out of the freezer, so by the time the lights are on properly I'm already on my way back out of the garage... Lighting options in Double Garage 13Feb 01, 2012 9:44 am Yeah thats the only thing with fluro lights they take too long to start up. We ended up putting one double in the middle Lighting options in Double Garage 14Feb 01, 2012 11:41 am The newer T5 tubes with electronic ballast start more quickly with little or no flickering, but cost a little bit more. They are more efficient than the old T8 tubes though. Is there a product that can turn on automatically when the garage door opens or possibly fit with motion detector? Lighting options in Double Garage 16Feb 01, 2012 12:48 pm Hi You can get the same sort of movement sensor that is often used with outside lights installed.
