I've gone for plenty of drives through the newer estates around Perth. I would agree with you on not going for the black/ very dark grey (Monument) colour. I also wouldn't go with Loft. I'm having a cream coloured, 2c brick as well, but would like to have a light coloured roof - to assist with keeping the house cool/ power bills low as we have long hot summers and I don't handle heat too well. I guess it depends what style of home you plan to end up with.... The front of my house will be rendered and I'd like to have it looking quite modern.... I'm thinking shades of blue-grey. I personally don't find that colorbond visualiser website to be too helpful as the non-colourbond options (elevations and bricks especially) are very limited.... But it is a good place to start. Also, the colorbond colours "in real life" tend to be a couple of shades lighter when you see them in full sun, compared to the computer screen/ colour cards. The colour samples can be picked up at those "Home Base/ Expo" places (one in Subi, one in City West..... may be others), or at your local Bunnings in the British Paints colour sample cards. HTH Good luck with your choices! Carol Re: What colour roof?? 5Jan 02, 2012 12:17 pm hi caz, we're the same as you....hate our long hot summers thankgoodness for a/c. we're building on acreage, so are looking for a bit of a country look. have seem some nice 'colour combos' when looking thru the realestate section, so thought i would do a drive by and if it looks like what we're after go knock on the door...[if im brave enough] Re: What colour roof?? 6Jan 02, 2012 3:40 pm You should also look at studio m / envisage app on the Big M website. It allows you to select a facade bricks and colorbond colour to see how it will all look. It may not have your bricks but you may find it of some use. Once that's done, I'm sure there are some very experienced/clever people on this forum that can help identify the colours! I'm just glad I'm not suffering through Melbourne's current heat wave Re: What colour roof?? 8Dec 30, 2012 1:17 pm caz_770 GardenofNeedn-58 I'm having a cream coloured, 2c brick as well, but would like to have a light coloured roof - to assist with keeping the house cool/ power bills low as we have long hot summers and I don't handle heat too well. This is something I've been contemplating actually. I'd love to go as white or even reflective if possible, but then rain is not exactly clean so your roof will pretty fast go all sorts of odd colours? By the same token if your worried about your roof getting hot your best bet is to have good ventilation, my folks place has vents all around under the eve's and a turbo jet thing that sucks air out once it goes past 40 degrees C, works AMAZING! so if the roof itself absorbing heat is no longer an issue it's back to what colour you want right? It's not a bright reflective colour but it is still nice and light and cool. We have the small vents around under the eaves, and one large e-vent at the very crest of the roof. Our roof is still warm on boiling hot days, but not bad at all and as soon as the sun goes down, it's lovely and cool up there. The e-vents really do make a difference! Okay, this photo is of the small vents we have around the house under the eaves... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ And this one is of a large e-vent like we have on the crest of the roof. This isn't OUR roof (I don't have a photo of ours) but it's the same. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Hope that helps! Re: What colour roof?? 13Jan 04, 2013 11:18 pm Will the roof colour significantly impact the indoor temperature during summer? We are building in Brisbane and originally wanted the Classic Cream roof, but our colour consultant did not think it would work with our colour scheme, and we ended up changing to Jasper. She insisted that it would make no difference, especially since we will have a couple of those whirly things on the roof. Is this a correct assessment or should we consider changing to a lighter colour? Re: What colour roof?? 14Jan 05, 2013 11:16 am well, that's kinda two questions in one... Yes light roofs greatly reduce the heat that's absorbed/transmitted downwards by them, if you really do the insulation well, will this negate the effects of having a hotter attic? good question. http://www.ehow.com/info_8791908_color- ... ature.html http://www.elitefitness.com/forum/chat- ... 45098.html "My best freinds father was a roofing contractor. Started working for him summers and afternoons when I was thirteen. Twenty years later after many years in roofing and housebuilding ( three of my dads brothers were carpenters) Get the color of shingles you want,. The main thing is plenty of ventilation, soffit, gable end and roof vents, plenty of options such as ridge vents etc. My personal opinion is you can't have too much ventilation. Also make sure you have plenty of attic insulation. Plenty of insulation in your ceiling joist and attic ventilation is the key to a comfortable home and long life from roof" I must admit most of the homes that I've seen that are amazingly cool have excellent roof ventilation. We have our modem mounted on a beam in the roof, and my partner has been doing a lot of cabling recently, so has been in the roof a lot. Even on very VERY hot days that we've had recently, he wasn't that hot in the roof because of the all the vents. On temperate days, it has been nice and cool. However, he went to run a security system for his sister's new house down the road (her roof is Colourbond Monument) and without the vents in a darker coloured roof, he sweltered like in an oven. I was not allowed to have a reflective roof either and had to check with developers as to which colors were classed as non reflective as it wasn't very clear. In the end developers said all colorbond colors were non reflective and that surfmist was approved. This email was forwarded to builders to go with plans and application for building permit.
