Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Dec 29, 2011 4:34 pm Hello, I am making half of my sheet metal garage into a room. On one wall, I have glued and screwed on a timber window frame to accommodate a double glazed pvc window I bought. The problem is, the hoop iron brace goes right across where the window's going. Can I cut it and anchor it elsewhere or something, or will this seriously compromise the structure? At the moment, the hoop iron is loose and doesn't seem to be doing much. I know it's a bit of a silly problem to be having, but I'm just feeling my way along with this building stuff, I'm not really cut out for it. I don't want to move the frame to avoid the hoop iron. This is the spot I really want it. Hope you can help me out. Add another X below the window if you like to be extra cautious. Dead right. The main purpose of the bracing is getting it all straight in the framing stage before the sheets of iron go on. Once the iron is on, the affect of the brace is counter actes with the sheets then taking over the bracing. You could simply cut that brace, put the window in, and not worry about re connecting the brace with any ill effect at all.
