A few weeks ago someone posted some extremely interesting photos of the mansions in Dubai's artificial islands. Many of those houses featured turrets, towers and large terraces. It made me think about the floorplans to those places.
And other interesting designs like the Roman-style enclosed courtyard, or the traditional Middle Eastern style where there's a large exterior wall and everything faces inward to an internal garden. Even the ancient idea where your roof sloped inward to supply an interior fountain.
Just a quick glance around shows the suffocating 'sameness' of Australian builders.
So post some links to overseas designs !
Here's some Dubai property to start things off (floorplans bottom left). Note the interesting interior area, master suite, maid's room off the kitchen and the terraces. This is a luxury design, but still has features that could be adapted.
