Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Dec 21, 2011 2:57 pm Hi, I just got the geotech report for my block of land. I don't really understand the terms and etc, was hoping if someone with more experience can help me understand it better. From 0-0.2m: Filling - brown sandy silty clay with trace gravel (topsoil) From 0.2-0.7m: Filling - hard, red brown clay with some silt and trace ironstone grave, mc-pl From 0.7m-2.5m: Silty Clay - hard, grey mottled red brown silty clay with trace ironstone gravel, mc-pl (residual). With some ironstained bands at 2m. Can any expert out there tell me if I am going to have issues with site cost in terms of that sort of materials? Is that generally an easy excavation or hard? Thanks! Re: Geotech Report: Please comment! 2Dec 22, 2011 8:05 am What did they classify you slab as? S, M, H or another code? The fill will be of concern if it isn't compacted enough. Also the layout of the site will affect the costs of foundation too. Re: Geotech Report: Please comment! 3Dec 22, 2011 8:53 am Hi, the slab will be H-class, but most of all Camden area is saline so I expected that. Do you mean the fill i specified is a concern or do you mean in general? The block is 18m by 39m, its pretty nice and rectangular. Also my block is nice and flat. Re: Geotech Report: Please comment! 4Dec 22, 2011 9:09 am I think you shouldn't have too many problems, however, at 0.7m the fill may be of concern. The foundations need to sit on solid soil so you may need piers below the main slab. If so, they'll only be short ones. Did you only have the one core sample taken? 23 Aug 2011: Land settlement 14 Sep 2011: Block levelled 20 Oct 2011: Slab 3 Nov 2011: Frame 10 Feb 2012: Handover http://s1098.photobucket.com/albums/g372/Dazzab6/ Re: Geotech Report: Please comment! 5Dec 22, 2011 9:16 am I am building with eden brae and i am going with their essential package which includes site costs, hopefully the piers will be part of it? Only one pit was done on my block of land (the report was conducted by the developer). My initial worry was about the ironstone gravel? Would that be an issue? Site: P/M Comments: Allow for screw piers. Don't have contract yet but hopefully tender "Slab to comply to AS 2870 for "S" or "M" class with SL72 mesh" and " 50 lineal metres of concrete piers" will cover our requirements !! Re: Geotech Report: Please comment! 8Dec 22, 2011 12:50 pm Yeh I know if you use the H-class slab it will be additional 5k which has already been considered in our initial estimate, hopefully theres no more additional cost on top of the site cost that was included in our package? But generally when they talk about "site costs" what does that actually include? Hi We have finally decided to complete a KDR on our corner plot in NE Melbourne suburbs.
