I would be calling the police. Re: Fencing guy no-show after deposit.. What are our options 16Dec 05, 2011 8:39 pm Not sure if this is a really 'dumb' idea... but try calling him from a different phone no. - maybe get someone else to speak/leave a message so he doesn't recognise your voice. Pretend you are a new client - saw his ad - would like a quote or to get some work done - make it sound all innocent and above board and nothing suss. Give him a friend or family member address (maybe not in same suburb so as not to 'alarm him' and see if you can coax him around for a quote. He might think he has 'lured a new spider into his web'. (I assume he does come around to give a quote or was this all done remotely?? Sorry can't remember if your post said.). Then, when he gets there, maybe have a few mates with you, make him feel a bit threatened (not in a threatening sense, but just in the sense that he is not on his own turf or on his own terms) demand your money back - and/or have someone follow him to see where he lives/get an address to chase him up. Even if it doesn't work or nothing comes of it (ie, unlikely he will have cash on the spot to return, but ya never know - or you can 'volunteer' to drive him to the ATM). Tell him if he doesn't pay up you will be calling the cops there and then. I don't know... all just ideas???? At the very least, it will make him have to think twice about attending more properties for quotes or to undertake work because he'll have to think twice about who might be waiting for him. ?????? Just a thought. Good luck. HHCIB Oh, and PS... IF you do decide to do something along these lines, don't stop trying to contact him from your own number. For eg, if you have been calling this guy daily, even after you make 'the other call', keep calling daily from your own phone. You don't want him catching on that you have suddenly stopped calling since he got the other call and that the other 'interest' could be a set up - if you know what I mean. Make him think there is absolutely nothing connecting the two. Re: Fencing guy no-show after deposit.. Speaking of ACA and TT why not contact them and see if they know of him or will assist you? Arfur Re: Fencing guy no-show after deposit.. What are our options 18Dec 06, 2011 9:44 am UPDATE hi guys.. thank you once again for your ideas and replies So far we have tried everything: 1. We have tried calling him through a different number but he did not pick up our phone. But that was on the day he was supposed to be coming to do the job at our place - so he must have guessed it was us. 2. Ringing the police - yes this thought did cross our mind. But we were sort of avoiding since we thought this is a bit extreme and he might show up. But now it looks like we have to go down this path ... Just another question I was filling out the form in CTTT (Tribunal) and it is asking me for his address details which I don't have. There is only ABN number, His name and Phone number on the Written Quote which he had provided us. What can be done in this case... If the address is missing, would it still be ok with the tribunal. Note: The form on the tribunal does not allow to go to the next page if we keep the address blank. Re: Fencing guy no-show after deposit.. What are our options 19Dec 06, 2011 11:03 am i would ring the CTTT and explain to them, they may be able to help you fill it out. also, where did you see original add?? if it was in paper or net, give this info to them too, as they prob have the power to contact them and find out address of person who placed the add or their ISP address - which the advertisers would likely not give you due to privacy laws. dont know if it would work but just a thought.
