But an enjoyable one! Thinking outside the box, what about something like rooms with separate "sleep pods?" By that I mean a room that is barely bigger than a single bed, say 2m x 2m, which is for sleeping and nothing else. Everything else - toys, desks, storage - would be in the "shared" area, which would double as a communal area, similar to the "activity room" which you see on standard house plans. My thinking behind this was that I used to share a room for about a year - after we moved into a slightly smaller house, before renovating - and I absolutely hated it. I was so different to my brother despite only being 1.5 yrs between us. A bit of "own space" would have been fantastic. I guess this idea (which I'm not sure what it is called - I just thought of it, but I guess I'm not the only one!) is similar in a way to a capsule hotel - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capsule_hotel - which is an even more space-efficient layout!
