Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Nov 16, 2011 3:22 pm Can anyone advise what to do ? We have had our builder build our house. We even paid extra to have our bricks upgraded to PGH Lifestyle - Almond However we are greatly disappointed with the untidy looking finish for our bricks That is all corners instead of being sharp are all chipped off We wish to know whether 1) these is how these bricks are meant to look when finished or 2) if we have been provided with an inferior batch that has been damaged or 3) the bricklayers have done a terrible job? We wanted a modern finish to our house and obviously with this look we don't have that Re: chipped bricks on new home 4Nov 16, 2011 6:32 pm Go to the PGH website, there it says that your brick is "tumbled", "wirecut"and "matte"
Tumbled - round uneven edges and "hand-made'' look. Wirecut - straight edges and slightly rougher texture on their face Matte - a coloured pigment is applied to the surface There is a close up picture there too Re: chipped bricks on new home 5Nov 17, 2011 8:32 am thanks for the response. The Builder did not tell us about the type of brick this will be and that would be the finish - they simply asked as to choose based on colour. Our mistake was not to talk to PGH directly Reagrdless if it is an organic look it shouldn't have chipped in the corners as badly as it has and looked so unsightly. Now it's in our place I don't know what can be done to fix it. Nobody else has bricks chipped as ours in our Estate I will try to post some pics asap Re: chipped bricks on new home 6Nov 17, 2011 9:03 am My brick selection process took a couple of months as we took samples, looked at completed houses, how easily they would get damaged, if they were tinted or coloured right through, etc.. How much time did you spend researching your choices? Building with Jandson Homes - Eclipse 18. http://adgnetworks.blogspot.com/ Re: chipped bricks on new home 7Nov 17, 2011 9:37 am you are correct - we were rushed into a decision by the Builder due to the terms of the Contract we had to start construction within a certain time period (being a house and land sale) Also we had so many other things to worry about at that time and a lot of other decsions to make aside from the bricks We were happy with the colour of the brick and sample they provided and never having built a house before we weren't aware the finish would turn out the way it did. What's done is done but just want to see how we can remedy the situation Re: chipped bricks on new home 8Nov 18, 2011 11:58 am Its a massive investment to rush into so I strongly suggest you go through the paperwork and see what other material descriptions you may have missed Arfur Re: chipped bricks on new home 9Nov 21, 2011 7:15 pm we spent quite a bit of time out at all the brick places (PGH, austral, and boral), actually 2 trips to PGH and asked a lot of questions we did this all before our colour appointment so we could make the right decision on look and colour. It was a pain in the butt to get to and used up several weekends but was worth it (we also did this for the roof tiles and bathroom tiles - two trips before our actual selection). To ensure that you haven't had a bad bricky job or got a bad batch of bricks, I would strongly recommend going out to PGH and having a look at your brick selection there (they have brick walls done so you can see it in a larger scale). And then if it still doesn't represent what you have at your house, push back on the builder or even request PGH come and have a look at your bricks. However, if at PGH their wall does match your house I think without a doubt you are stuck with that look get them to replace the chipped tiles. It will stick out like a sore thumb overwise. Also tiler will be siliconing the miters rather than grouting. Grouted miters crack… 1 4043 Building Standards; Getting It Right!
