Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Nov 10, 2011 7:08 pm Howdy all, We have been doing a bit of renovating recently and we've come to the outside part of the house. We need to replace the front picket fence as its in bad shape but if we do this we need to paint the new pickets and we dont want to paint them only to change it later down the track. We also have to paint a side gate and a fence so want to make sure we get it right first time. Also we need to finally paint the boards after having the place restumped. This got us onto the colour of our house and window frames/guttering etc.. My g/f and I are not very good with colours and being able to identify what colours would go together. We seen a picture of a house and we really liked the colour. We thought the white frames worked really well with the grey. Basically I'm trying to find out people's thoughts on it. Would it suit? Are there any drawbacks/potential problems? Would it suit our type of house? The frames on our place at the moment were not painted very well and paint is all over the glass. We also are not very fond of the colour. Hopefully some of you guys can point us in the right direction and let us know your thoughts if you think its a good idea You can see our house on the link below and also the colour of the house we liked, hopefully it works http://www.flickr.com/photos/69661167@N06/6331508206/ thanks all Re: Painting our House (pics) 2Nov 10, 2011 7:15 pm I think your house would look gorgeous in those colours. Only thing I'd check is the trim and which parts should be which colours so that you're emphasising the correct parts. Here's a quick vid which might give you a few tips. http://media.smh.com.au/property/inspir ... 91966.html Hope that helps People make one happy, not houses? I do not think so. I love that deep grey and to be honest I'm not a lover of grey in decorating it always seems too drab, but that deep, rich grey has the wow factor. Sorry d@n not meaning to disagree it's just how I see it. Mouseman might not agree with my thoughts anyway...LOL In saying that I would paint the front door a bright red (or similar). Whatever you do (imho) make sure you paint the downpipe and meter box the 'same' colour as the walls to make them one with the walls...as it is now the meter box stands out like the proverbial. The window frames being painted a dark colour appear smaller than they are, but reversing the light/dark colours will improve the whole appearance. My suggestion for the fence would be to stain it the same as the decking and side gate etc. Just my 2c worth!! Re: Painting our House (pics) 5Nov 11, 2011 9:55 am Hi Mouseman That grey is very strong and dark - but it looks good. I quite like it. If you personally like it, then go for it - I think it would suit your style of house. My only concern is with all the grey paving/concreting - will it be a bit too much grey??? Not saying it will... just something to consider. I agree with making sure you work out what bits will be what colour to make sure you get the trims and highlights in the right spot. And also agree about considering painting the front door maybe a totally different highlight colour just to lift it a bit. If I did decide to do that, I'd probably go a burnt orange or something??? (I have a 'thing' about wanting an orange door myself ). It might not be your thing - esp with such strong colours already, but again, just something to consider. If you did use the highlight for the door, I wouldn't use it anywhere else - maybe one on other very small item, like a letterbox or something, but I wouldn't splash it around as a trim colour. If however you decided to go with a toned shade for the door, then you could use that spread around a bit more on other things. But these are just my opinions/ideas - I'm no colour expert. We need to paint our soon too so will be looking for inspiration when it comes to it. Please post pics when you are done so that we can see what you ended up going with. Good luck.
