Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Nov 07, 2011 9:40 pm Hello everyone. I'm building a custom home for which I paid extra to have "flush threshold to all external doors". The architect inspected the site last week and said the doors were too low, needing raising about 12mm so that they will be flush with the floors after tiling is done. I dropped in to the site today to find that the doors have now been bricked in (external walls only) to around head height in the same position. I'm advised that even if the doors end up too low, a powder coated metal strip can be installed between (over?) the tiles and door to accommodate any difference in height. Not too happy about this prospect as I want what I paid for. Does anyone know what the vertical measurement between slab surface and door should be if you ask for flush thresholds? Thanks, looking forward to your advice. Re: Flush threshold sliding doors installed too low 2Nov 07, 2011 10:38 pm What sort of doors? Sliding, stacker, bi-fold, regular hinged door? Then what brand? The best thing to do is get in touch with the door and frame manufacturer and ask them to email you the detail of the threshold section, you can then work out what set down you require based on the type of flooring used. I'll find out what make the aluminium doors are and check with the manufacturer. Re: Flush threshold sliding doors installed too low 4Nov 08, 2011 6:55 am Your architect should have given the builder a build-in detail for the door height. There is no such thing as a right height, it depends on what floor covering you are trying to align with and that decides the actual door height, which results in the correct set-in. Otherwise your windows and doors won't align at the head. I don't think you can fix sliding doors without removing and reinstalling as the tracks will be too low. Sorry I can't recommend one or the other so best to rely on comments… 5 3278 Thanks! I'm spoke to the builder I'm not sure if this is all true but basically went along the lines of they considered all options and if I was to compact and fill it… 2 7315 |
