Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 08, 2011 6:38 pm We will be building in the new year and we are finalising the house plan, I'm looking at furniture placement and I'm considering having the TV mounted on the wall above the heater, possibly a combustion heater. Has anyone done this just wondering if heat affects the tv? Gandj Re: Can I have the TV above the heater? 2Oct 09, 2011 5:00 am Naturally it will depend on how hot it gets. Personally I wouldn't do it unless you want to void your TV warranty, possibly shorten the life of your TV or even start a fire with componentry overheating Arfur Re: Can I have the TV above the heater? 3Oct 31, 2011 7:47 pm We have an open Jetmaster International Gas Fireplace its 1500 wide and we have a plasma above the fireplace. Our fireplace is flued and as we have a double brick wall the wall that does not heat up at all. Basically if the wall behind where the telly is going to go is warm to the touch and you can feel heat rising up behind the telly from the fire, then mounting the telly is not a good idea. Then you are best to have a barrier between the fire and the telly to direct the air away from behind the telly. We have had our tv on the wall for 7 months and we have not had a problem. Also by allowing the tv to sit out from the wall by an in inch or two helps with the ventilation also. Re: Can I have the TV above the heater? 4Nov 01, 2011 7:54 am We wanted to do this too, above a wood heater (zero clearance). I rang around a few tv places and the advice I got was "people do.....but we wouldn't recemmend it". If it is a wood fired heater the flue etc all run up through behind where the tv is. There are ways of getting less heat up to the telly (as per above posters suggestions) but they generally didnt recommend it as heat seems to be the enemy of tv's. We decided to go with freestanding anyway as is more efficient at giving out heat 0 1337 Have look at your house plans and you will probably find that brick articulation joint has been missed.
